It’s the time of the month that I get to announce my top commentator and February month seems different. Having the least number of days in a month did not stop it to garner the most comments. 102 comments were received just from my 3 top commentators out of a total of 152 comments from my top 10 commentators.
I may have mentioned before but good to point out again Jakob Nielsen’s study did revealed that 90% of online community users are lurkers, meaning they read but never comment, while only 9% contribute just a ‘little’ and 1% contribute actively.So here’s a big thank-you to my active contributors and commenters for leading by example.
For those of you who may be new to my home business blog, as a small gesture of my appreciation, the Top Commentator for each month will be recognized and rewarded with a free one-month 125×125 ad banner on this blog.
Like I said February month seems different too as never before seen in my work at home blog. I woke up today expecting to start the usual lazy Sunday morning, perhaps spending lunch with family and then try to write this Top Commentator post. No instead I woke up to witness some fierce battle going on between my top 2 commentators trying to outwit, out post, out comment each other to win Feb month’s coveted TC award. They had too as each of them was at par in the number of comments posted for the month. It’s a matter of who gets the final one or two more comments before the TC number gets a fresh reset for March within a few hours.
Hey they both made me work harder than my day job in the bank and probably forgot that Sunday is a day of rest huh. Hard work for me because I had to keep up with them and approve each comment as they posted so as to let them know almost in real time their latest score. At one stage I felt like I was testing this TC plugin making sure that the incremental number appears against their names. When the plugin finally resetted to zero, I was spent, relieved, tired, happy it ended. So who won?
This Top Commentator for the month of February goes to …(drumroll) Luis Torres of Marketing Business Review while Ben gracefully bowed out. As you might know, Ben was also the top commentator here for December and January. Well Ben I like to see you become the top commentator again this month and Luis, you’re now accorded the rank of ‘Boomerang Commentator’ coined by Sire, another TC on this blog. Did you guys like the competition. Well Luis did and had this to say:

Hi Peter,
Not sure if you got the comment, I didn´t got the sezwho email. Have you contemplated to uncheck that feature from sezwho? The one that make you wait for the email to be approved.
As you may see in my blog, once you are been approved the first time then all of your comments will be published instantly. I also have the sezwho plugin, but I chose not to have this feature on.
It make me more difficult to win over Ben, lol. And make you work harder, leave the process to be automatic, lol.
BTW, Have you checked your banner in my site? Is it ok?

@Marketing Business Review: What did you mean you didn’t get the sezwho mail. Could you explain what your are referring to. Anyway what feature of the sezwho configuration should I uncheck to have the auto approval after the first comment has been approved. Could you tell me specifically.

Hi Peter,
if you go to “SezWho Configuration” there is an option
“Disable Comment Filter”
sorry it is the opposite as I said, you need to have it with the check in it to get rid of the filter.
“x This option disables filtering of comments.” This one just be sure to put the “x”. I guess you have it unchecked.
You will need to go to the WP setting too, just go to
“Discussion Settings”, there are 3 options that are as follows:
Before a comment appears:
1- An administrator must always approve the comment (Leave this one uncheck)
2- Comment author must fill out name and e-mail (I ahave it checked this one, but it is after you)
3- Comment author must have a previously approved comment (This is the one I told you to accept comments from previously approved commenters)
You may need captcha or Akismet instead if you get rid of the sezwho option, let me know if I can assist you.

This is a great way to increase traffic to your site! It also encourages people to comment and be more active in the community. As long as people are commenting intelligently then this should be a good idea.
