If you have read some or all of my 5-part Link Building Strategy Blog Post Series, you would have realized that a big part of your link building strategy evolves around blog commenting. One of the better known secrets in successful link building is to search for blogs with the Top Commentators list to put your comments especially blogs with similar niche.
Once you have made it to the top commentator list, you will be rewarded with sitewide link and getting some PR link juice. You must remember to leave only good quality comments on these blogs and observe the number one rule: DO NOT SPAM.
These backlinks that you’ve obtained will help you in not only Google PR ranking but Technorati Authority too, which together aim to bring you more search engine traffic to your blog. I have witnessed this change too in my blog, proving that Technorati does track who links to you and accord you with the traffic quite equitably. Again I can’t emphasize enough to focus more on high quality blogs with high PR and with similar niche.
Why is this Top Commentator Plugin this good….this powerful?:
Well someone I know who does blog commenting at blogs with ‘Top Commentator‘s List for just 2 months gets him over 10,000 inlinks??? How? It’s simple ….the Top Commentator links are sitewide (because it’s in the sidebar) and it counts every single page as an inlink. So if you make top commentator on a site with 300 pages, it counts as 300 inlinks.
List of Blogs with Top Commentator Plugin
I’ve made some efforts to compile a list of blogs with different PR so that you get a head start and hopefully make your link building efforts a little easier.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the tips ! The top commentator sounds like a good deal but doesn’t it take visitors away from your site ?
I assume there is a way to let it open in another web browser..I really despise people who leave my site. Kinda like when someone comes over to me and then just leaves without saying goodbye.

Kindly thanks for the links Peter and for explaining strategy how to obtain backlinks. I appreciate your work.
October 10, 2008 at 10:15 pm
@Jeff Carpunky: Hi Jeff, If you use the WP2.6 text editor it just takes one click to make the link open in a new window. You can also do this manually too by typing this:
<a href=”http://link.com” target=”_Blank”>Anchor Text</a>
The target = blank portion will make the link open in a new window.
I think you shouldn’t worry too much about your visitors leaving your blog too quickly. If you build a blog with great compelling content, these little things are not going to matter much.

Then again, I’m looking for the list, so you must just be starting it. I’ll have to think about adding this one myself; I have a bunch of stuff already on the site, after all, and we can only add so much,… or do we ever really have to stop? lol

Thank you for sharing your the info about the backlinks that we can use to increase the traffic in my site. Creating comments help me a lot because i can insert the backlink of my site.Additional info it is important to remember to always use the keywords you want to categorize in your anchor text of the relationship. Some bloggers do not allow keyword in the anchor, but only a first name. Something that I will never understand because if you are offering to follow-why put restrictions on the anchor? For the love of God that wants to qualify for his first name? However, I digressed. Links with nofollow do not count as backlinks to Google and other search engines, so you dont get the search engine ranking benefit for a link with nofollow. At this moment a whole movement has evolved, who are removing the NoFollow settings. These bloggers are able to reward commenter’s with so called love links. Love links are an excellent way to reward visitors that are contributing to a useful discussion.

@MLM Training:If you’re building backlinks dofollow blogs will not help you as Google ignores them completely. The only thing that you may still do so is when you are building good relationships with other bloggers who may have nofollow blogs. But that’s not for backlinks purposes. If the sites are completely different, just ask youself this question. Will linking to that site benefit your site. That should help you decide if you should link to it.Thanks for the visit.

Yup, Do not Spam is the way to go.
Peter, many thanks for the links! Will be doing back links on them.
March 22, 2009 at 7:35 pm
The problem with do-follow is people will spam. If a blog is good enough then the blog owner won’t need to have do-follow because people will comment to put their point of view accross, not to gain a back link.
The BBC is a perfect example of this. There are no links in the forums and blogs, yet they have many users.
However, when a blog is starting and it wants to get a upper hand, their is no harm in attracting people who want do-follow links, because some will become hooked, so even if you change to no-follow, people will still comment.
March 23, 2009 at 9:34 am
@http://www.cazare-in-bucuresti.com:You have a valid point. I’ve known a few established blogger friends who changed to nofollow blogs as they had too many spam comments. But I think most of us have not really reached this stage yet, so we’ll cross the bridge when it comes.

Hi Peter,
What do you think, what should i do to make a visitor come to see my blog ? i mean the appropriate one so they will start to love commenting my blog with a quality comment.
March 23, 2009 at 11:40 am
@DeViLnoAnGeL InFo: I suggest continuously promote your blog i.e blog marketing and have lots of unique quality contents on it. You can read more in a post I wrote:http://www.peterleehc.com/blog/work-from-home/how-good-content-blog-marketing-drives-massive-traffic
March 23, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Thanks for sharing the list. I have few questions regarding this technique:
1) Will 300 backlinks created so quickly on a single hurt ?
2) Will 300 backlinks with same anchor text hurt ?
3) I am using my name as anchor text. Should I avoid this technique. But then using the keyword as name will not be considered as spamming ?
I have few more questions. I will ask when I get response to this one.
Thanks.

Thanks Peter, I took your tips and am getting traffic and visitors from search engine.Cheers
April 2, 2009 at 9:50 am
@peter:(1)I think how you get the backlinks is more important. If it's legitimate, I don't think this should be a problem.
(2)You should always try to use a variation of anchor text. Always alternate your anchor text in your next comment, so that should not be a real concern. It's when you continuously used the same anchor text that you might get into trouble.
(3) Using anchor text on name field is the best for SEO but you will also need to comply with the blog comment rules.

Wow, thanks a lot for making this list, it's obviously very helpful to many of us. I know it's a little outdated now but it's still a great resource to start from. And you're definitely right about if you don't want to do something you'll find an excuse. That's probably why I haven't made a list like this for myself =]

Thanks Peter for taking so time to compile the links. I find it very helpful and appreciate it.
June 24, 2009 at 2:37 am
@Peter,
Someone is using the same keyword of mine and leave comment in this post, he took my link love at the Top Commentor list. But I couldn't be able to see where is his comment. Can you please email the commenter or edit the commenter name so that my link won't be replaced at the Top Commentor list?
Thanks peter!
Regards,
Lee
June 24, 2009 at 11:22 am
@ Make Money Online: Hi Lee, I checked my TC and it shows you are no. 1. Can you recheck it again. Let me know if it happens again. It seems to be a flaw with this TC plugin as I've seen it happened before when another commenter uses the same KW. When that happens I usually put the second commenter with a “@”
I have also put up your link on this list.
June 24, 2009 at 7:51 pm
@Peter : It's fine now because when I dropped a comment after him, my link replace his. I have no idea how we can avoid this happens, sometimes it happens in my blog too. Thus we have to read every comment and make sure the Name is not same with others. Anyway, thanks for checking.
Also, thanks for the link in this list!
Regards,
Lee

This is really a good list regarding blog commenting. Putting your niche on top commentators is the right way to use a good dofollow blog for getting backlinks. Peter, this is really good post describing not only importance of blog commenting but also a good list provided here. That will be most useful for any user. Thanks for sharing the valuable list. Keep Posting.

Hey, I run http://eCancerAwareness.com and just installed the Top Commentators and DoFollow plugins. The site is currently a PR2. Can you add it to your list? Thanks!

@ eCancerAwareness: Done!
July 28, 2009 at 11:34 am
Thank you
July 30, 2009 at 11:07 am
Peter, well put. I would agree with making comments on higher PR ranking blogs that have installed Top Commentors but is it really important to comment on blogs within the same niche? That really limits the number of blogs you can comment on. Besides,
I think 'site relevancy' is way over rated in the link world.. ask yourself this, what is the theme of cnn.com ? There isn't one. It is all over the place, but a link from there, powerful..
I've spoken with a fella by the name of Dave Kelly founder of Linkvana and he also concludes the same opinion. Just food for thought.
July 31, 2009 at 12:39 pm
@Dan: You raised a very good question. When I first started link building that was what I had thought that you should only link to your blog or site from relevant niche. Although this is the ideal situation, linking from non relevant sites is still good. But only if it’s a quality site and high page rank. Read my post:

Thank you Peter!

August 15, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Thanks so much peter, for providing the links to all those top commenter blogs. I have just recently installed the plugin on my new wordpress blog.
So excited about all the possibilities it provides for both the blogger owner and the comment authors.
September 2, 2009 at 11:39 am
Excellent post mate. Cant thank you enough for the links. It would take a me a lot of time to compile that list of blogs. Thanks again.
One question. How would you make a list for niche blogs? I tried a lost to come up with such list for weight loss blogs but they are no follow. Any ideas?
Can we comment on these blogs for other niches and still get good SEO results for niche markets.
September 2, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Peter, I forgot to mention that I have a PR 1 blog with do follow top commenter section. It is http://HowToMakeQuickMoneyToday.com.
If you see it appropriate can you include it in your list of blogs above?
Thanks.
September 6, 2009 at 10:41 am
I am getting close to my blog hitting a PR1. I would love to get in the mix here. Thanks . I will report back when i make it.

Freaking GREAT list! Backlinking is so important and any information that makes it easier is always welcome. Thank you!
September 20, 2009 at 5:04 am
Hi Peter,
Disqus comment system has a nofollow attribute. And you are using disqus like me. I am trying to make my blog dofollow ASAP, but wordpress plugin like (dofollow and nofollowfree) doesn't work. The nofollow is still there. Like yours, when I view the source code of this page, links on comments are still nofollow. Do you know a way how to make disqus comments a dofollow. Thank your very much.
September 20, 2009 at 5:41 am
@viclogic: I didn't realize that as Disqus is relatively new on this blog. I really don't know how to get around it. Perhaps you can shoot a question at their forum while I try to send a tweet to them. Yeah I like to change it too here. Thanks for telling me.
September 21, 2009 at 9:22 am
Thanks for this Top Commentator list; this is a very useful resource.
September 22, 2009 at 12:31 am
Sir I have some question about backlink. Please can you inform me how I know that my blog comment is do follow or not?
September 22, 2009 at 12:33 am
Sir it it equal to get link from website and from blog of same niche?
September 22, 2009 at 6:36 pm
@moonheart009: A link is a link, it does not matter if it's from a blog or a website as long as the home page is of good quality and yes if it's from the same niche it is better. Having said this, links from blog commenting are not much value anymore compared to a long time ago. For link building it may be better to focus on contextual links instead.
September 23, 2009 at 12:08 am
Thank you for your reply sir.
September 24, 2009 at 10:14 am
Sir I have some question that my blog traffic is going decrease. Before my blog was top ten for keyword “legitimate work at home jobs”, but now its even not visible at SERP. Why can you please inform me?
September 24, 2009 at 11:25 am
@ moonheart009: That's a very competitive keyword phrase and if you don't continue to do link building you may lose your SERP like what you are experiencing now. Since you were able to get to top 10, just continue doing the same work and see if it moves up. Do lots of article submissions to Ezinearticles and use the anchor text as “legitimate work at home jobs” would help too.
September 24, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I sometimes post aritcle on Ezine, but not frequently. If I comment on do follow blog, with anchor text, can it help me for get rank for that keyword?
September 24, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Sir your list is great, Really commenting in do-follow blog can increase lots of backlink. Anyway can I use my anchor text while commenting on those blog?
September 25, 2009 at 3:55 am
I have bookmarked this page, I will use this list for my site.
September 25, 2009 at 4:35 am
Thanks for sharing this good information. It could be useful for my optimization.
September 26, 2009 at 12:33 am
Hi Peter,
I guess you need to edit the disqus plugin on the comment.php and try to remove the nofollow attribute.
September 29, 2009 at 8:49 am
Backlinks are essential to search engine ranking ..the above article is IMHO gold,a perfect blueprint to quality backlinks..Thankyou for the information
September 29, 2009 at 8:51 am
Oh and thanks for the exceptional list of Top Comment Blogs…
September 30, 2009 at 11:10 pm
A very hearty thanks to you. After reading this post and applying your suggestions I have been able to greatly enhance my link profile in the past 2 months. I've maintained a strict commenting schedule to achieve this. Also I have given genuine comments to keep up to my motto of never spamming.
October 2, 2009 at 9:38 am
You have given me the most potent link building weapon – thanks a lot. Commenting on blogs regularly is part of my link building strategy and now after reading your post I see that I can get a lot much more than a single link from a comment if I follow your suggestions and start commenting on the blogs with Top Commentators plugin. I'll start today and give you my results after 3 months.
October 2, 2009 at 12:02 pm
There are two ways to find out if a link is dofollow or nofollow :-
1. right click on the link and then click properties – this will show you if the link is dofollow or nofollow
2. if you are using Firefox then you can install the dofollow-nofollow plugin. for this click tools > add-ons > get add-ons > search with the keyword 'nodofollow' > install the plugin. To use it just right click on a webpage and select NoDoFollow – the dofollow links will be highlighted in a violet color and the nofollow links will be highlighted in pinkish color. Hope this helps you.
October 2, 2009 at 12:09 pm
To say in simple terms – yes the value of a link from a website and a blog is same. But it must also be stated that a link from a high PageRank and related website or blog is worth more than a link from a lower PR and non-related site. You must also use the suggestions of this post and comment on blogs using the top commentators plugin to get sidewide dofolow links.
October 2, 2009 at 12:15 pm
It seems you lack some knowledge about SEO – build links on a consistent basis because search engines love fresh links, if you stop your competitors will bypass you by building more links than you have. The number of correct keyword anchored links that you have will determine your site's placement in the SERPs specially in competitive niches like yours where onsite optimization is not al all enough.
October 2, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Dofollow blog commenting is no doubt a good way to increase your link profile but also try to choose blogs with top commentators plugin as suggested in this post to get the maximum benefit. You must also be consistent in article marketing and also include article sites like GoArticles, ArticleCity, ArticleBase, ArticleMonkey, ArticleAlley, A1Articles and some other article directories to post your articles.
October 2, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Definitely use the keywords for which you want to rank well in SERPs as the anchor text of your links while commenting on blogs.
October 2, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Its good to see that you follow a strict motto of never spamming. in fact we must all be careful and follow strictly the no-spam policy, specially so while commenting on these blogs with top commentators plugin so that we all can enjoy this facility for ever.
October 2, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Thanks for keeping the list updated. I have bookmarked the list.

Sir I want to ask one question, one person want to exchange link with me, but not same niche with my blog. The url of the site is backgammontrial.com, So is it helpful for me to exchange link with him?
October 5, 2009 at 6:34 pm
@ moonheart009: The best would be same niche. Having said this I do lots of back link building but with high PR sites that are totally different niche as I am.
October 6, 2009 at 1:44 am
Sir , that means if I exchange link with that website, so It is ok?
October 8, 2009 at 8:05 am
After viewing this post and applying your suggestions I have been able to greatly enhance my links. Thanks.
October 8, 2009 at 10:21 am
@Career Target: Good to hear that and I'm happy to have helped in any small ways.
October 8, 2009 at 10:31 am
Chandan,
I very seldom do link exchanges with people nowadays but in the past before I agree to do link exchange I always ask the question does it help me or my site/blog or my readers in any way. Is it any value to me. For this reason I will not exchange with this site (I deleted it here) but you have to make your own decision by answering that question.
October 9, 2009 at 4:28 am
Sir thank you for this information, Now a days many people want to exchange link with my blog. But I assume that if I exchange link with related blog with high PR is is much better than other.

It is better to have few links from many blogs than many links from just a few. It's all about being natural in the eyes of Google. You can do blog commenting regularly so that you grow your links consistently.

Peter,
I've been hanging around your site for the last couple days and found your site full of great information. Just a note on the generous keywrod lnik you're allowing, would you want to consider putting plugin like keywordluv to allow username @ keyword type of feature instead of people stuffing keyword in the Name field.
April 6, 2010 at 8:00 am
@wilsonw: I had thought about that but the only thing stopping me might be disqus that I am using. It does not seem too friendly with some of the plugins that I tried before. But I will try it out soon. Thanks for the suggestion.
April 8, 2010 at 3:44 am
is there any backlink software available for free that filters out the nofollow websites? I mean, and automatically finds the dofollow ones and automatically posts a comment you write and a link to your website on all of them.
April 9, 2010 at 2:16 am
Why not be nice and contribute to the communities? It easy to gain trust and there are lots of them allow guest posting which allow your posting of article for link building for your client.
Build up your profile and you've got the whole community to support you. Don't you want to build a business that last a life time, instead of hit and run. How many times can you hit and run, forever? Peter is giving with his whole heart, lets show some support will ya.

This is great! I love finding new ideas as I learn how to blog successfully. I have seen the top commentator lists on many blogs, but the key is the site-wide idea. I didn't know that. You are a gem. Thanks for sharing this.

we can not use same keywords at all places. we have to make variety in anchor text. for example you can use “make money online” at 100 places and next 100 places you can use “make money online tips” like that.
