Very interesting article, Peter. One thing I can underline is ‘time management’. If you’re not careful, you can spend hours at these social networking sites before you know it. Also, it’s important to keep in mind that you want to use these sites as a place to promote your business, so you want to focus on that, unless of course if you have different agenda in mind

Finally got around to reading this article, which I feel is crucial to my niche. One question I have though is that she emphasizes the importance of social networking in regard to building backlinks. Is that true, though, as I’m assuming networks like facebook, youtube and the like are all nofollow? I’m assuming they’ll help somewhat, perhaps because of the high PR of the sites? But will they have a huge effect due to their nofollow status?

@Hip Hip Music: You’re quite right. There are still about 20 social sites that are do-follow so these sites are still good to use for the purpose of link building.

you are right youtube, facebook and even myspace are all social bookmarking sites and they are all nofollow sites but what you can get out of it are the visitors that are visiting those sites thats can benefit you when it comes to your niche its not the building of backlinks from those sites that are beneficial

Yes, there are only few sites I think in social bookmarking sites which are really helpful especially mixx.. They are useful for getting good traffic as well some backlinks too to your site.

I have met people in India, Belgium, Canada, UK & even the US that have entered into business deals, joint ventures, deep friendships and more with all from the comfort of my own computer. It does not limit the ability to communicate, but rather it changes it in seriously dramatic ways that are excitingly powerful. Less, of course, you want to step back to the old days of the face to face connections.
