new online business
This article is written by James King, a professional multimedia designer who runs atmmultimedia.com. He specializes in the field of website promotion, marketing, SEO, and helps website owners and bloggers maxmise their online presence on the Internet.

The Internet is a wonderful resource, where a world of opportunity is available. If you are willing enough and determined potentially you could create a new online business. This takes time and effort, however, it will be worth your time. In five years time you could be earning what you are worth.

In the beginning it is a lot of work. Being your own boss requires discipline, passion and dedication. If you enjoy what you do it is not work.

Here are some reasons to create a new online business:

(1) You are in control. You can decide what to focus your time on.

(2) Flexible working hours. You maybe more productive later on in the day.

(3) Have more time to do the things that matter to you. You want to travel more? Learn more about a certain past time? Become healthier? These options are surely better for you than making your employer wealthy?

(4) Commuting you can save money on petrol. Also when the weather conditions are bad, dangerous driving conditions can cost you more than your employer.

(5) You can earn as much money as you want. There are no limits on your earnings. In life, you got to realize that working hard for someone else is not going to make you wealthy. However, working smart on certain projects can make you better off. Invest in yourself, it doesn’t matter how hard you work for yourself, because you will reap the rewards.

(6) Multiple streams of income is smart. You never know what may happen. If your company went bust and your only stream of income was from that job. It is not a wise decision to place all your eggs in one basket. Although, society preaches you should get a safe steady job? No job is safe and our current climate proves that. Any employee is replaceable and employers will find someone to replace you.

(7) If you work from home you are more likely to be healthier. If someone goes into work with a cold or virus you are likely to catch it if you are run down. That is one thing that really bugs me, is catching other people’s germs.

(8) You decide when to finish work. For many, work feels like a prison sentence. When you have to stay at work for a number of hours. I know people that are clock watching and to me that is the worse thing ever. I am not a great fan of Monday mornings, but I look forward to the weekend. Although, I spent most of the weekend working on my blog, because I know in the next few years it will help me to succeed on the things I want from life. Follow your dreams and your goals but most importantly listen to your heart.

(9) You can wear what you like. Having a job is expensive, because you have to buy clothes and suits for your work and pay for petrol, travel in dangerous conditions. Plus it costs us a great deal of our waking hours during the week. Surely there are better ways to make a living?

(10) Maybe you feel that you are doing all the work in your current job, where as others are slacking off. You are probably getting paid the same amount in your office for doing the same job. If you are hard working and determined focus on a project that will benefit you. You don’t want to be carrying others. Creating a useful online resource will serve others and people will respect as your website or blog continues to grow.

(11) Office politics. Are you fed up with the brown nosers getting all the appraisal? They maybe terrible at their job, but as they suck up they are thought higher than you. It is not a way that I would exceed in my career.

(12) You could be generating some of the best work your clients are happy with it, but your employer will not give you a raise. Everyone wants to get what they deserve. So starting an online business will be the best solution.

(13) Go on holiday when it suits you not your employer. Holidays are your time. You should be allowed to go on holiday when you wish.

One of the major advantages of working for yourself, when you are making a decent living is that you should have more leisure time than ever before. Life should be about having a good balance, although in today’s world that maybe difficult. Depending on the level of responsibilities that you may have. Once you have the vehicle for a successful new online business begin marketing and stick with it, because later on you will be able to have more of your time.

However, I must emphasize that creating an online presence, takes a great deal of time. You are not going to generate lots of traffic over night, unless you are very lucky. Rome wasn’t built in a day, an successful online business should be a long term project.

In the lifetime of any blog or website you must focus on developing useful fresh content when the reader will return again. Focus on your audience and the rest will come. Start small devote an hour a night to your blog and develop this in your spare time. You will be surprised with the content that you will produce.

Come and be apart of this culture that will continue to grow in the years ahead.

  • Hi thanks for the comment,

I plan to do another guest article for Peter Lee soon.

I like your blog too, it has a great design. Very colorful.
  • Thanks for the post. I think the best advantage is the flexibility. Although as many comments have mentioned, you end up working more, but YOU get to decide the hours and when to stop.
  • @Meaghan: Thanks for dropping by. Yes having flexible working hours sounds pretty good. But I guess it depends on how well you're optimizing these free hours at your disposal.

  • Job mentality and skepticism had kept a lot of people from venturing into online business. They used to laugh at people who are doing something to be a winner. But those people have realized in a painful way that how dangerous it would be, depending on job income alone. Now they are cursing their negative attitude.

You have neatly explained the benefits of going online. We have to pity those who still have skepticism about online business even after this economic meltdown. Online business is the best option of creating additional source of income to fall back in case of need. When it becomes bigger in size you can quit your day job.
  • I am starting to develop an online blog, to escape working for someone else. Why should they get all the rewards?

Being a highly skilled person working for an employee is going to make them wealthy not me.

I have a huge list of reasons to setting up my own business, one of the main reasons is the opportunities. I can create for myself.
  • Hello Peter. My reasons are very similar to yours. I love having an online business because my time is so flexible...and I can even work in my pajamas! Working at home also gives me more time to be with my kids as I don't need to be away from them the whole day.
  • One reason I love is that I don't answer to nobody and don't have managers bossing me with their egos, rather than my experience.

    You can't buy experience.
  • @Claire Luftfahrtversicherung: I think once you have time completely at your disposal, it can be very rewarding. But that's when good planing should come in I guess to get the best out of the extra time in your hands. Glad to have you here.

  • A home internet business is the greatest business of all. People just have to realise that it takes time. There is a trade off for a business that has all the 13 benefits listed and is usually cheaper to start than any other business. That trade off is that it usually takes longer to generate any income. You don't have a shop front with doors that open on to a busy main street from day one. Instead it takes time to make your presence known.

  • @Dave's Affiliate Marketing: Hi Dave good to have you back. It's been a while. You're right. I think there are some people who still think starting an online business is just setting up a website and waiting for the money to roll in.Wish it was that easy.

  • Hi Peter,
I like 1,2,3,5,6,8,9,10 but I really like 2,3,5 more than the others. I'm thinking number 7 that you still get gems from family around you when they catch a flu unless you live alone.

    Thanks

  • @Computer Work At Home: Well it may be most suitable for some people who unfortunately have some health problems. Working at home may offer them more time to rest which you can't do that while having a office job.

  • Hmm on #7 - how many home workers complain of weight gain? A LOT lol.

  • I am one of those who fall in the healthier range. As I don't get sick like I would in an office, I'm allotted time to exercise because I'm on my schedule, I can monitor what I eat and make healthy choices. It is about discipline. More then likely they were lazy to begin with.
  • @The Blogger Source: Yup! you said it ...discipline.

    Peter
  • Dennis Edell: Are you a victim of that too Dennis? But I guess it depends on your discipline right?

    Work At Home Blog
  • Hi Peter, interesting to see this post given that I gave up my full time job in Novemeber to work on my sites and it has been the happiest time I've had for years but not without it's problems. I'm lucky enough to earn a very decent living from a couple of my sites so motivation to push on and build new sites is hard to come by sometimes.
  • Steve:Most people do it part-time on their business before quitting their day job. Good that things work out well for you. Keep in touch.

    Peter
  • That is what I am doing you need a safety net before you give your boss, reasons to sack them.
  • Wow, a lot of great points here. I definitely believe starting an online business can be lucrative, but as best css gallery said, it is not for everyone. You really have to develop an understanding of how to market, and you do have to have some discipline. Some people just aren't cut out for it... but those that are... its an excellent opportunity and provides for a great lifestyle!
  • Nice article!

Web blogging is really the easiest way to market your own website. Aside from being free to acquire, it is also personalize so you can really express the expertise of your company to your clients.
  • @Used trucks: Thanks for dropping by. Yes having a blog is a must for your business.

  • I really love this business, i never thought i will love doing anything for the money, but i do love my work.
you can make as much money as you can depend on how much work you are putting and how effective you are working
  • @workfromhome business: Hi Jossef, it's a nice surprise. Yeah I guess you reap what you sow, although it will be good if we can sometimes work less to get more. Not the lazy way though, but the smart way.

    Work At Home Blog
  • Great post! I think on-line business is not for everyone. You should posses a strongest self-discipline
  • @Best CSS Gallery:I think it depends on how much you want to succeed or belief in yourself. A lot of attitude needed to persevere. The journey has more down than ups especially when you are just starting.

  • Hi Peter although its more rewarding having your own business don't you find that your flexible working hours although flexible are a lot more. If you work for an employer when you leave the office the time is your own, but when you have your own business you always want to put I that extra bit of time. More satisfaction but also more hours.
  • @Khaled: What you've said is very true. I work almost non-stop after work even on weekends. Sometimes it scares me. But that's just me, I love doing this.

    Online Business Opportunities
  • Hi Peter,

I still in my full time job same as you and trying to earn enough from my online biz so I can actually fire my boss.

I have found that even that I am working in my Biz on Weekends (Something I wont do for any circumstance in my "hell" oops mean full time job)I do not feel it as real work because I love it, its something I like.

I have counted the real time I am putting in my online Biz and it is about 30-35 hours a week that suppose to be part-time and I do not even feel it.

Thats why I´m a firm believer in online biz, I agree with James.

    Luis
  • Hi Luis,

It is smart to create an online business as a hobby, then let it develop as an online business. I love blogging too, so it's not work, it is a good pastime for me.

Turn something you love into money is a great achievement, that many dream of, but don't take action.
  • @Marketing Business Review: Luis, yes! the thought of being able to fire your boss, is very good motivation. I'm also clocking about the same time, so we do have something in common. Perhaps we could end up firing our bosses together?

    Online Business Opportunities
  • Hi Peter,

That would be just Awesome. If we can be able to fire our bosses together then we should make a post together talking about it to the entire blogosphere, lol.

    Luis
  • Great stuff, Peter, and I'm glad you threw in the disclaimer, of sorts, at the end. Many people think that all they have to do is slap up a website and the money will come rolling in, but we know that's not close to correct. However, we can generate some kind of income, and do it pretty well if we do it right.

    <abbr>Mitchs last blog post..The Psychology Of Gambling</abbr>
  • @Mitch:Yeah Mitch, I guess there are lots of people who still live in their dreams. They are always looking to get more out of working less. Not working smart though just plain lazy.

  • i am totally agree with all point.especially no. 1,2,3,5,6,8,10.but i think other people can not accept for what i am doing because they still think like old fashion, which is if we work then we must go to the office and doing some task. they judge me that what i am doing now is not real and don't give anything for me. but for me as long i am happy with what i am doing and its give me something value, i want to continue with someone beside me or without anybody beside me.thank you peter, you open my mind again for what i am doing now.

<abbr>joe comps last blog post..If Your Eye Feel Tired</abbr>
  • @joe comp:Working at home business is a serious business and should be respected. But for many people they just don't understand that it's a legitimate business. Anyway as long as you're happy that's good enough for you.

    Peter
  • Lol no. 7 doesn't sound too serious huh? Never thought of such problem before. I would say multiple stream of income is one good motivation and also your business just runs 24/7 on its own!
