Commencing October I will be showing my appreciation to my readers and commentators who have supported this Work From Home Business Blog and provided valuable comments. As a small token of my appreciation, The Top Commentator for each month will be recognized and rewarded with a free 125×125 ad banner on this blog for a period of one month.
I read in Problogger‘s blog about Jakob Nielsen’s study which found that 90% of online community users are lurkers (they read or observe without contributing) with only 9% of users contributing ‘a little’ and 1% actively contributing. Although this study was done a couple of years ago, I am guessing that this trend may not have changed significantly since then. So thanking my top commentators is the least we can do to encourage more participation and reciprocating comments.
This Top Commentator of The Month of September goes to Sire of WassupBlog who has never failed to join a discussion, contributed his thoughts and knowledge of the topics in discussion or initiating interesting ideas on his own blog. One of his most recent was a movement he started called ‘You Comment And I Will Comment On Your Blog’. As though this was not good enough he then tweaked it slightly to form ‘The F-Group’ cementing a commitment which bloggers have already pledged and rewarding them with a linkback from his blog. Thank you Sire for being my top commentator. Sire, please contact me to claim your reward.
The Top Commentator award will only start from Oct 1 as I had not officially announced it before. It will be a free 125×125 ads on this blog for a period of one month. However as a recognition of Sire’s Top Commentator for this blog in September, Sire gets to choose one of 3 customized banners for his blog to be created by a professional web designer.
(Sire please choose one of 3 banners of “468×60, 120×600, 234×60″ and let me know via email -title and description).
Now what do the rest of the Commentators get as a reward? You’ll get a link love from yours truly as a gesture of my appreciation to you.

Hi Lucas,
You’re quite welcome! It goes with the spirit of helping one another in this otherwise impersonal world we sometimes feel we are in.
Hi Mitch,
Hey man, you can do better than that. Just a couple of comments a day here will do the trick. I hope to see you at the top commentators position my friend. Good luck! BTW it’s good to see you now have a gravatar. It’s nothing like having a face to your name right?

@Tom / Unique Business Opportunity: Hi Tom, No problem it’s still a good post I’m sure and the link goes to your blog.
@EmmaB: Hi Emma, Yes I think giving a small reward like this will be appreciated more by our readers. It may not be much but I think it’s a little better than just say “thanks for being top commentator”.

What a brilliant idea! I have recently found your blog and have come back several times as I find it inspiring and very helpful. You are very well informed and professional. With so much rubbish on the web, informed sources are very much appreciated. I also just love your imagery, where does it come from, do you create these images yourself? Very artistic I love it!

These are some good ideas that I'm starting to think about using on my sites. I've definitely noticed how rare it is for visitors to comment. So anything that can help people take the step to becoming active participants is a good thing.

It's hard to offer you much of a suggestion for how to write about this as its language is stilted and silly by today's standards. I suppose the writer is to be commended for her humility…
