If you have a link building strategy, getting backlinks and finding new ways to obtain them should be something that you constantly focus on as part of a daily routine in your work at home business. Better still if you can get them for free and they happen to be top quality links from one of the biggest sites on the planet – eBay!
As an eBay member you can create your own profile page. Your profile is a nice way to increase your eBay credibility but it doesn’t really bring visitors to your other websites and doesn’t allow link backs. But there is something else that does.
Here’s where the link juice is…
Your eBay About Me page. Start to build your own About Me page using HTML complete with clickable links but only after you’ve read eBay’s About Me Guidelines so that you do not violate any eBay terms and conditions. There are certain links you can not have but you may be surprised at just how relaxed eBay is with their terms.
Your Ebay Blog:
You may already know that eBay allows you to create your own blog. But not many realize there is a better way of using your eBay blog to help you in your link building. Essentially what you should do and how you can get the best out of your eBay blog:
- do not start an eBay blog like a normal blog. For God’s sake, don’t start posting hundreds of pages like it’s your WordPress blog. Keep your blog posts to a bare minimum perhaps 2 to 3 posts.
- Use one of your pages to build a List of Resources in which you link out to your Resource Partners. It helps to diversify your link exchange program.
- Obtain quality inbound links to your eBay blog as you would similarly do for your other websites.
- Do not be afraid of linking out to others but especially so to bloggers who are already your link partners. It’s called linking to a link. The rationale is this. When you link to them, you build their authority and in turn you’ve boosted your own page authority and backlink.
Sample eBay Blogs:
Here is mine:
…and yippee! it has been indexed just after 2 days!

That it took only 2 days for Google to index this page and already given a page 2 SERP for one of my keywords I’m currently ranking ‘work at home ideas‘ speaks well about eBay and more importantly this page is now getting a certain amount of Google Juice from it. It’s indeed a pleasant surprise for me although my primary interest in this page remains in facilitating link exchanges with others. It goes to show also that what you decide to name your ebay blog is extremely important (see screenshot).
Here’s one from an SEO Specialist friend Scott Coplen:
Why Link with eBay?
Well when I last checked, this site has 56 million inbound links at Yahoo and a PR 8. That alone is good enough for me. But apart from the linking potential it offers, your eBay blog does bring you additional traffic to your own sites or work from home business blog. On the first day that I got my page indexed, I had 65 views for this eBay blog and about 20 views for the post I included “The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks Starts Here“. It may not seem much, but considering it’s the first day and I didn’t do anything to promote it, I’m just a little short of being ecstatic.
Although I’ve yet to venture into the full spectrum of what eBay offers to work from home business owners, my first impression of eBay has been better than I thought. In terms of backlinks, linking opportunities and its vast Google Juice sharing, eBay has shown why it’s one of the greatest sites on earth.

Wow, this is the first I have ever heard of this idea and it is great! I had never thought of using ebay as a link building strategy. It is even more surprising to see this working for your considering that your feedback score on ebay is zero. This may even work better for those that have active ebay accounts with larger feedback numbers.
I wonder at what point ebay would consider your about me and blog pages as too spammy? I would hate to lose my ebay account that I have had since 1999 and built up solid feedback on.

I think ebay discontinued ebay blog since end of Oct 2009. And they also do not allow html in the about page anymore. I think there are too many spamming and cause them to close their door.

Hi Peter
It's the first time I've found your blog, but I really like the comment about using an eBay blog for backlinking. I already use the About Me page for driving traffic, getting links, and building my list, and I know a lot of others who do the same.
It seems that more and more people are realising the potential of eBay as an SEO tool, rather than just for selling things. Great for us, maybe not so great for eBay
October 15, 2010 at 2:41 pm
I've been building micro niche sites for a while now – but now I am looking to move into a larger niche.
October 16, 2010 at 5:08 am
@http://www.troydraves.com: You're smart – building micro niche is both interesting and profitable. Good luck!
February 13, 2011 at 9:37 am
If you sell/buy a lot on ebay then its worth doing, if not the chances of your page getting indexed and the link being worth anything are next to zero. If however you sell lots of products, every product you list will have a link to your profile, every person you leave feedback for will have a link to your profile and the link in the profile will start to carry some weight.
April 2, 2011 at 9:40 am
peter, do you advice angela and paul link packages? they are similar as ebay, you create a profile in different websites and put your link on them.
April 2, 2011 at 8:25 am
EBay used to be good too but I think they have been taken off and you cannot post it. Yes Angela and Paul link packages are good although I have not used Pauls’. I used Angela’s high page rank links for the last 2 years and they have worked for all my niche sites. http://angelasdiscountmarket.com/b_b_Peter_Lee.html At $5 for 60 high page rank links, it’s a steal. Have you used them?
April 6, 2011 at 10:38 am
I would recommend Angela's links. They are often removed but a lot of them have staying power.
