This post “How To Find .edu and .gov Links” marks the first of many “how to” short posts on this home business blog that I will be writing and I do have a reason for doing so.
Why Do I Want To Write “How To….Posts”
Well I think having a specific “How-To” category with useful information makes easier searching for my readers who come to my blog – especially those who are here for the very first time. I also found out that there is a continuous search and demand for any IM topics with many of these titles preceding “How To” so I guess I am just helping to ease that demand a little and share a little of my work from home Internet Marketing experience. Oh and how did I find this out? Simple, I just do a ‘Google Insights for Search’ for the term “how-to” and I can see the trend has been on the increase since 2004. Here take a look for yourself.
Today’s post is on:
How To Find .edu and .gov Links
I have written many posts on the subject the most recent one is “Get Ranking Power of .edu Backlinks“. But I am not going into any debate or debunk the theory still held by other Internet Marketers or bloggers alike that Google now does not give much weight because I probably could produce evidence to show why it does mean something. In fact I would say we are about even in terms of the number of people who believe so vs the people who don’t.
So let’s get started:
Finding High Authority EDU and GOV backlink is relatively easy and you can just head over to Google and search for any of the queries given below:
site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “Keyword”
site:.gov inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “Keyword”
site:edu inurl:login create an account
site:edu “powered by vBulletin”
site:edu “powered by SMF”
site:edu “powered by phpbb”
inurl:.gov + inurl:forum
site:.edu “powered by wordpress” keyword
site:.gov “powered by wordpress” keyword
site:.edu inurl:guestbook
“keyword” forum site:.edu
“keyword” forum site:.gov
“keyword” blog site:.edu
“keyword” blog site:.gov
PR 7 .edu Backlink In 15 Seconds! – WordPress Plugin Automates on-site and off-site SEO
So you have it. You can use any of these simple search strings to start to find some .edu and .gov sites to visit and put your comments to get backlinks for your make money online websites. Remember, don’t get too hung up on finding high PR for these sites because these domains themselves are considered high authority by Google. But if you still want to, then the easiest way to identify their page ranks is to just install SeoQuake.

Great tip Peter. I noticed a trend on Fiverr where members were selling .edu back links and I knew there had to be a way of finding the sites without paying $5 at a time. In fact, a couple years ago I subscribed to a paid email subscription I found on the warrior forum where the lady sent links to sites just like the ones found in the Google search. I just tried the first search string and it worked like a charm. Thanks for sharing this very cool search method.

Thanks for sharing this great info . Really simple tips that I can easily implement. I found a few links from .edu sites which were age rank 0. Are you saying that it doesn't neccessarily matter about the page rank as google automatically gives more weight to these domains.

Hey Lee,
Thanks for the great post man but i have a question. Often i find difficult to find relevant .edu or .gov sites where i can put my link. But most of these sites are somehow related to the education but my site is about
Boxing Gloves is there any way to find these sites in a particular niche ? Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
November 16, 2011 at 1:53 am
Hi Zuhaib,
That’s OK. Because EDU adn GOV links have more value than other types of links, getting these will definitely help whatever niche you have and yes that includes boxing.

These are very useful footprints but the problem is most of the foot prints I tried I could only find nofollow which are useless according to SEO terms. Is there any footprint or any way to find out only the dofollow blogs. SEO Quake is the only way i am using .
December 23, 2011 at 5:54 am
Very useful trick for me, greatly apreciated. Now it is time to have some edu links
December 31, 2011 at 4:39 pm
thanks for the advice on this. I saw a similar approach provided by Ryan Deiss last year as part of his Perpetual Traffic Formula – it was in his report called the Authority Codes. Nice. There’s another approach that’s become quite popular, but am unsure about their ‘authority’ – and that’s getting EDU & GOV links via Fiverr. I feel that this is more of a spamming approach than what you’ve put forward.
Speak soon
