If you’ve read my post outlining The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks and my blog commenting experiment, you’ll know getting lots of free backlinks to your home business blog is not as difficult as it seems. If you read the comments in these posts, you’ll know that many others who used these methods have found similar successes too. But just getting tons of backlinks even quality ones may not just be enough. That is if you really want to bring your blog to another level of success- occupying top position of Google regardless how many competitors are out there or how competitive your keyword might be. Essentially the key to ranking well in Google is to master some of the SEO techniques and use a link building strategy that works for you. Here is one linking strategy I used that has worked for me.
Zimbio (PR6)
It is a social networking site that allows you to find out about the latest topics that appeal to you, but more importantly for me, it promotes and syndicates two of my home business blogs and getting valuable backlinks, and traffic at the same time. That this is a PR6 just makes me wonder why I didn’t discover this site much earlier. Here, take a look at my Zimbio page
.
Wikidot (PR 7)
According to Wikipedia A Wiki is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most content very quickly and easily. Here is one wiki I made and link to my website and blog using my keywords I’m ranking: http://work-from-home-ideas.wikidot.com/
Scribd (PR 7)
Write a keyword optimized post and include your main keywords to your website or work at home blog. Then upload it to Scribd. How’s that for simplicity. The good thing about this site is that it has a page rank of 7 and your newly created page gets visited by Google bots and other search engines like Yahoo, MSN all the time. Although my primary interest is SEO ranking, I am getting some traffic too. Since my page was created less than a month ago, I have received 118 views. Nothing to gloat about but then, that’s just a bonus I didn’t plan for so I’m not complaining. Well take a look at my document I uploaded here to see how it looks.
Squidoo (PR8)
Don’t forget your favorite Squidoo lens. There has got to be some truth when I hear just too many bloggers and friends swear how much good their favorite Squidoo lenses have done for them. Could this be a reason why these same people are able to occupy top position at Google despite having chosen highly competitive keywords. Or could it be Google for some unknown reasons just love Squidoo so much or Squidoo has a way of dominating Google. Well for any scientific proof or another case study, that will have to wait for another post. But for now it may be a good idea to just write a few Squidoo lenses and link to your sites and blogs. Take a look at one of my Squidoo lenses SFI-Top Home Business Opportunties .
EBay (PR8)
If you’ve missed my post on how to get a free backlink from eBay, you can read it here again. This eBay blog was started 2 months ago specifically for link building purposes and as such I’ve exchanged many links with other bloggers on this page. Hopefully this will increase my page rank over time but for now my efforts have helped this ebay blog get to Google’s page 2 for the search term ‘work at home ideas‘.
Free WordPress Blog (PR9)
The biggest advantage of using the Free WordPress Blog, besides that it’s free, is the known fact that having links from different IP addresses is really good for SEO as they are deemed natural linking. So get yourself a free WordPress blog and start linking to your website and blog using your keywords. The good thing about having another WordPress blog is that you’ll enjoy the obvious benefits since all WordPress blogs are of great value. This new blog just got it’s PR1 with the December 2008 Google PR update. Since I first posted about my keyword phrase “Work From Home Ideas” made it to Google Top 10 one month ago, it has remained in this position. Since then, I have had another keyword phrase “Work At Home Ideas” too making it to Google Top 10. I like to think that getting lots of free backlinks certainly feature in my link building strategy, which has in some small ways made this possible in getting a good search engine ranking.

Great stuff as always, Peter. I check out your other blog and have a question. Are you posting duplicate content or creating unique content for that blog? Just curious as I’ve been wanting to start another blog but don’t have a lot of time to come up with fresh content for both. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

@Work From Home Resources: Hi Alan. I’m using my own articles that I’ve submitted to EzineArticles to post to my new blog but I changed the first paragraph. So you can say I’m using duplicate contents. This also allows me to optimize these posts with the relevant anchor text/keywords. So this new blog is really for link building and for boosting my SE ranking. I’ve since gotten a PR1 just after one month. This also proves yet again that there is no such thing as duplicate content penalty. In fact Google just rewarded me with PR1.

I totally agree with you that Google actually likes duplicate content. As long as the content adds value, you will be rewarded for it. Thanks for answering. I think I may use other people’s content for my new blog. It’s on my “to do list” anyway.

Hey Peter,
These are some great tips to get some high-quality backlinks. However, I’m a big proponent of getting links that aren’t easily replicated by competitors (i.e. links that come from high-quality content and thus give you a much greater competitive advantage). Honestly, the value of these links go down as more people know about them.

Peter:
Excellent advice and tips in this column. I’ve been debating whether or not to do some of what you suggest but given your comments and some other Internet marketers (primarily Howie Schwartz), I think I will start adding Web 2.0 propeties to my web marketing efforts for link love. I have to say though that Scribd doesn’t from what I’ve hard pass on dofollow links. You speak highly of using them above, though, hence the question.
Best,
GR

I definitely agree with your article and those are some places I will definitely be building my back linking with. I use Digg and Reddit and those have given me a fare share of visitors over the past couple of months. I get about 100 a month from each so if I channel myself out like you have to about 10 different networks I can get an extra 1,000 uniques monthly and potential returning visitors.

Hold on here! I am confused because above you say “This also proves yet again that there is no such thing as duplicate content penalty.” but if that is true then why did Google come out with the Duplicate Content Meta Tag? I heard about the tag early in 2009 and have been waiting to hear if it is worth using or not.

May 25, 2009 at 4:30 pm
As always I experiment with things I don't really understand and Duplicate Content was on the top of my list after reading this post so…
I copied one of my websites, got a few authority links from my friend's in the industry, Google index it, it now has a PR of 2 (so does every page on the website) and shows up on the first page of Google for my main keyword.
You would think that after this experiment there is nothing behind the Duplicate Content however….Google has only indexed the index page of the website and refuses to index the remaining pages even though they have great PR and inbound links.
Could it be because of too much Duplicate Content? I would have to say Yes! Once I changed the wording on two of the pages that Google wouldn't index and pinged the website to notify the search engines that changes had been made those pages showed up in Google's index.
So Duplicate Content does exist and I say this because the remaining four pages of duplicate content within the website still have not been indexed no matter what I do.
