If you know a bit about web development then other things can be useful too like caching pages so that they dont load everytime for every user. Use of web 2.0, such a shame that there isn't any content management systems that take full advantage of ajax. Also using future technologies such as using sphinx for example to improve the speed that data is retrieved from databases.

Some good ideas – especially if Google does start taking page loading times into account when calculating the SERPS.
