The author of this post is Brian. He is the blogmaster of Domain Structure which essentially is an online blog that helps other webmasters and domainers increase adsense revenue while offering them easy ways to save money when purchasing domain names and hosting. I’ve invited Brian to share with us how he makes money online …Flipping Websites. You can subscribe to his RSS feed for more updates.
So you’re looking to make money online ? You have setup your site and monetized it with AdSense and other programs in hopes of quitting your 9-5 job. You have even attempted some affiliate marketing in hopes of creating a second stream of income for you and your family. But have you ever thought of flipping websites?
Flipping websites is done just like flipping a house. Your goal is to try and create a nice looking blog / site in hopes of being able to sell it off as quick as possible. Flipping websites is becoming one of the more popular ways of making money online. One person can easily create a nice looking blog / site in a matter of days and have it sold within a week.
If you were to browse eBay and look at active websites for sale you can see the market for flipping websites. Now I can’t guarantee you will make millions of dollars flipping websites but you can turn a profit. The one thing about flipping websites is that you can actually sell the same website multiple times. I just recently sold one of my blogs and if I really wanted to.. I could sell it again. I still hold all the files.. all the database information etc.. all I would need to do is purchase another domain name.
The blog I recently sold was purchased for $65.00. I payed $39.99 for a two year domain registration and $4.99 for a 1 month hosting package. The blog had earned about $10.00 from AdSense so with this sale I was able to walk away with a profit of $30.02. Now I know that is not huge amounts of money but it is still a profit. Especially if I can sell the site again for the same price.
Flipping websites always gives you the opportunity to make some money from affiliate links. Give the buyer a little bit of a discount if they sign up for a hosting package from you. Of course the hosting package you are offering is going to be one from your affiliate partner.. ie Commission Junction or something along those lines.
All in all.. expand your horizons and dip into flipping websites. Once you get the hang of things you can be flipping multiple sites a day and making some extra money on the side.

Good to see you doing guest posting here, Brian. Site flipping is getting all the recognition and popularity in the last 2 months or so. I reckon it’s one viable option to make quick dollars by just flipping sites. Though I believe it’s not for everyone…

Yes, flipping websites is now very interesting business opportunity. But it is not that easy, as you have written. As competition is really big, there are many things to look at, and you must be prepared to take risks, because no one can guarantee you that you will sell every site that you make. The hardest part of flipping websites, is to make starting income from it, because after that it’s much easier to sell, as it is hard to find people that are willing to buy non-profitable website. Also, i think it is not so moral to use same content, dbs that you have already sold on another site. You are selling unique site, and i am sure that buyer wont be happy if you duplicate his new content.

I love flipping websites – the main thing that u need for a good flip is to do your market research and include extras in the sale in my opinion

@Blog for Beginners: Hi Yan, Thanks for dropping by. You’re right it may not be for everyone, but I think a fair amount of people who share this passion for site development will love this opportunity.
@Jessy Lu: Hi Jessy, Thanks for sharing with us another aspect of Flipping Website. I guess as in any business opportunity there is some risk involved. But I like to think, it’s a relative small risk. Well nothing venture nothing gained.
@Simon from Otooo: Hi Simon, thanks for dropping in. Appreciate that. I agree market research is important and should be considered too.

I have seen a few online marketers make very good money by flipping websites. I think the key is to do it quickly. Build a few backlinks for the site and sell it.

Hi Stephen,
It’s good to see you here. It seems to create quite good business opportunity for a good number of bloggers that I know of. But I guess it requires some passion in creating websites too.

Flipping websites can either be profitable or a waste of time. You obviously want to monitor the amount of time your spending making the site compared to the profit. It just may be to time consuming.

One thing I forgot to mention. A lot of people on the forum I frequent have mention they they still receive earnings from Adsense on the sites they sell.. simply because the person who bought the site was inexperienced and never removed the ads.
So far I can voutch for this as the person who purchased my blog removed my adsense but never removed my Comission Junction advertisements. Wonder if that qualifies as link baiting?

Hi,
I think flipping websites is a great endeavor. It is actually pretty easy to do if you know what you are doing.
Basically, just take a free wordpress theme and spice it up with some modules , pretty icons and what not.
Write a few pages of unique content and your pretty much set. The only thing bad about hosting it on a reseller account is that you have to be customer support.
I am to lazy for that !

I got into this a few years ago, there’s great potential to revamp a site and raise it’s PR a couple of points before selling it. Easy money if you’re willing to do a little bit of work. Chris

@Jeff Carpunky: Thanks for sharing some good information here. You made it seem so simple and perhaps it is.
@Christopher Ross: I think there will always be a demand for it. Most people (like me) are somewhat lazy to do all this work and a revamped site with PR would be quite appealing.

I believe anyone can flip websites – I started a few months back and haven’t stopped since. And the best part is you don’t need any knowledge of html or any programming language. Learn a CMS like WP, joomla or drupal – or any of the hundreds of free ones out there – find a nice template – grab a decent domain and your all set…. add a bit of unique content – You can’t go wrong
