Five Tips To Keep Your Blog Content Interesting

If you’re planning on setting up a home business blog, you’ll probably be considering a whole range of issues on marketing and SEO aimed at upping the traffic to your site. In spite of playing a vital part in achieving blog success, writing good quality content can be inadvertently left by the wayside.

While a large number of visitors is impressive, it’s a good idea to keep in mind that old adage of quality over quantity. After all, visitors who click in and then straight back out are of little value. So how can you keep your visitors engaged once they arrive at your blog? By writing or commissioning good quality content.

Five tips for better quality content:

1) Beware of the keywords. Using keywords for SEO can be an important factor in building your online profile and helping visitors find your blog, but it is possible to overload posts with keywords and this can have the opposite effect. Try to use keywords as a part of natural language.

2) Keep it simple. Writing unique content relies on your expertise in the given topic, but don’t be tempted to overload posts with technical jargon. Use simple straightforward language to explain things wherever possible and you won’t risk turning your audience off or losing their attention.

3) Focus. Keep your blog posts short and to the point. Visitors will invariably have an incredibly short attention span so don’t be tempted to waffle on till they wonder off. If you have a lot that you’d like to say split it up into sections and write self-contained engaging blog posts on each bite size chunk of your subject.

4) Break it up. Big blocks of text are off-putting to the reader, break your content up and you could reduce your bounce rate significantly. Use bullet points, pictures, videos and headings to break your post up and you are much more likely to engage your hard-earned audience.

5) Diversify. As well as covering your niche comprehensively, don’t be afraid to branch out every now and then to write about something a little different. Diversify into closely related subjects and you could find yourself drawing in a much wider audience. It is also useful to think about diversifying within your own niche, look at things from a different angle, utilise different types of blog post (e.g. the “top 10”, the “review style”), or consider offering a guest spot to get a fresh look at your topic area.

Good quality content is not just for the benefit of the reader. It can help enhance your SEO rankings and get people talking about your site, building the online profile of your online business blog.

Today Dec 31, 2010 is definitely a good day as it marked the day I launched my first Authority website. Yep, finally after a month of deliberating and doing some research as to how I should do this, I bought the necessary tools and blueprint, and I have today published my website and 4 “authority” pages.

Part II of my Adsense journey Begins

For those of you who remembered about 15 months ago I started my adsense journey and bought myself the now famous Micro Niche Adsense Course from XFactor as well as XsitePro, a powerful web building software and launched more than 20 niche sites during this time.

Well guess what…looks like history is about to repeat itself. Part II of my adsense journey begins officially today and I’m turning 3 of these niche sites into authority websites as well as adding a brand new health niche authority website. I’m still following XFactor (John)’s method only this time he just released his latest blueprint for ‘Advanced Adsense Publisher Guide to Making More Money With less sites‘. That’s perfect for me as I’ve recently stopped adding more niche sites and a few months ago already had thoughts of making a few of my sites to authority sites. I guessed John must have read my mind.

Why Authority Websites?

I’ll be perfectly honest with you. For a long time I was living under a misconception of what an authority website really is and who is fit to create one. I once thought that only the “big guns” or the more established marketers should be the ones since they already have the “authority tag” accorded to them. Not quite really as I found out recently.

Now I know an authority website need not be another CNN or Yahoo News nor must it be the most beautifully designed site. In short you and I could well launch an authority website within the next 1 week – if we wanted to that is. I’ve experienced some success in building niche sites and now building a few authority sites is just putting that icing on the cake. I called it a natural progression. It’s also called focusing on the long term, creating passive income and generally working towards making more money online only this time using few sites

Some Information about XFactor’s Authority Site Adsense Guide

It would be impossible to give a meaningful review of this advanced adsense blueprint without giving away all his techniques and that would be unethical so I won’t even go near there. So if whatever little information I could share with you may seem somewhat hard to comprehend, please excuse me and you would know why this is so.

It’s a very comprehensive book and John goes into great length to make his 217 pages book so easy to understand. It’s not an extension of his earlier book which I bought 15 months ago; it’s his second book. There are many tips that he gave but to me the most important thing I learned from him was how he makes creating authority websites so simple.He made it look simple because he teaches how to theme our articles as a part of his technique. He uses Web Content Studio to help find all the theme words for any articles we plan to write, articles that Google loves.

If you do not know what “theming an article is”, think LSI and long tail keywords to give you an idea. It’s also about how it will get you lots of traffic even if the keywords are highly competitive. So if you’ve been trained to believe you should only do keyword research and focusing on choosing keywords that have more traffic and less competition, that’s old school and a lot more difficult to do, I might add since everyone does that. With theming, it’s about less traffic as far as all the keyword tools tell you, insane competition but you still get lots of traffic all the same. It sounds a little hard to understand but the ebook will go into every great detail. It’s worth the $39 I paid for (first timer to his course pays $97).

I have just learned the proper way of ”siloing” my sites and that is not only good site structure for easy navigation on your site by your visitors, I’ve learned long ago it’s good for SEO too. Well that’s just a small part of what his Adsense Guilde teaches, the same techniques he uses to now make over $1000 per day.

How I Use Web Content Studio To Write Articles For My Authority Sites

This strategy is simple yet very powerful. When I first read about it, naturally I was simply amazed at this technique. I was hoping I could save some money not buying the tool and tried to do the work manually. The result – it’s too tedious and time consuming and at the end left me frustrated because I couldn’t check how well or badly I had done the “theming” process myself. And I can’t possibly do this for every article that I write. Well enter Dr Andy Williams’ Web Content Studio that cuts down 3 hours of research work to a mere few minutes. I relented, paid for this tool and now think this is the best tool I’ve ever come across.

With theme keywords strategy,I write my article relatively long – about 1000 words but with this tool, it’s really quite easy but you just follow a “process”.

What is Web Content Studio?

It contains a set of tools in a suite all under one big software application. This explains the name “studio” and all the tools are located on conveniently placed tabs that you can click to easily go to. So you have a scratchpad that has an auto “grabber” feature that copies whatever research work you choose from any website that you conveniently placed in your “bookmarks”, another tab in this software suite. Other tabs include ‘Editor”, ‘Researcher’, ‘Keywords’ and ‘Notes’.

These tools are cleverly thought of by Dr Andy Williams to help you research the keywords that Google expect from authority sites whenever you write your contents. So if you are planning to write an article on say “affiliate marketing”, this tool will query Google for the phrase “affiliate marketing”, and visit all the relevant pages listed at the top 10 (you select how many) sites and extract for you all the theme words like “affiliate”, “network”, “advertising”, “commission:, “merchant” and theme phrases like “contextual advertising”, “revenue sharing”, “cost per action”, “compensation methods” used by these top 10 sites Google ranked.

Once you have these keywords presented in a report (again all shown in this “Studio”) the objective is to write your article (Editor tab) that includes all these theme words and theme phrases. How many and what words you used are really up to you (you just put a ’tick’ on these words) but in the manual that comes with your purchase of Web Content Studio, Andy explains and provides suggestions based on not just his theory but showing you his real live cases and the results achieved. The result is that you will learn just what it takes to write your best article with these theme words and phrases that Google expects to see.

Here is a quick summary of the process flow when I write each of my well themed articles (in WCS):

1. Create a blank article page
2. Do keyword research.
3. Clean the list using the compare against top 10 so you only get the most popular words in your final list of theme words.
4. Write your article.
5. Check theme of article.

For me, because I write articles everyday either researching for my clients when writing their articles or I write for my top niche sites especially the 3 sites that I decided to make them authority sites. It takes guts and a clear vision, but for those with enough courage to take the leap, the rewards can be great. Unfortunately, not everyone might have as firm a grasp on why you would want to start a home Internet business. Because people don’t understand your job, you’re going to be forced at every turn to defend yourself and your decision. If you prepare for people’s questioning, however, you can respond smartly and boost your own confidence in your endeavor.

So what do you do, anyway?

This is possibly the most common negative comment you’ll experience. It’s frustrating, because with any friend you know who works in an office, you wouldn’t ask, “what do you do in that office all day, anyway?” Because office work has been accepted by society, people don’t question it, even though it can often be very pointless. Instead of getting annoyed though, practice a standard response, basically a sales pitch for how great your business is. Write up a two or three sentence description of your business and what you do. Edit it and make it pop. Instead of mumbling, “uh, well, I write content for uh, a blog,” you’ll have a savvy, professional response that will dispel their doubts.

Laugh casually and tell them the truth: “Now that I work for myself, I work harder than I ever did before!” Tell them how many hours you dedicate to your business, and how it’s much easier to stay busy when everything you accomplish is for your own benefit.

How can your tiny websites compete with all the huge ones on the Net?

If your great Aunt Sally has never been off of her Yahoo homepage, it might be difficult to explain to her about how many smaller websites there are out there. Give it a try though, explaining that niche sites have appeal because they don’t have all the noise of the bigger portals– they focus only on one thing people are looking for, and do it well.

Congratulations on taking the leap in starting your own home Internet business. While people will inevitably express doubts about your success, don’t listen–have faith in your own abilities and in the strength of your business plan. How To Make Money Blogging-Through Niche Blogging Of Course

How do you make money blogging if I may ask? Have you found your best monetization method that works better than others? Perhaps it’s affiliate marketing, one of the most popular business models because it’s relatively easy. I like to hear what your favorite and most profitable method of making money blogging is. As for me, and if you have been a frequent visitor to my blog you’d know by now I’m sure – its niche blogging or niche marketing if you will.

Why You Must Have a Favorite Method of Making Money Blogging

If you have been blogging for as long as I have, which is 3 years and 1 month, you would know what is working for you and probably that’s what you are now focusing more efforts on. That’s the right thing to do anyway as even the experts say so. I remember while working for a client, I saw an article from Liz Tomey and she says that the key to online success is to “find a proven profitable business model and stick to only it”. So have you found this? Do share a little success story if you have so that we can learn from you.

Well I’ll share some insights and the intricacies of building small and profitable niches. If you are new to niche blogging, hope some of this information is useful to you especially if you are venturing into niche blogging one day. If you’re someone who is already making good money from niche sites, well then do share with us what works well for you. It’s a learning process for all of us right?

Niche Sites-Don’t restrict to building small sites

Forget about the one-page wonder in niche sites if that’s what’s been ingrained in you about what a niche site is. Many years ago, this would have worked and worked really well I might add. Many online marketers just built a single page (excluding the default pages of Privacy Policy, About, Contact) and they began making money. Nowadays people built more pages to their sites, not so much to avoid getting the Google Slap but more pages make more money.

My Insights: Try to eventually build each of your small niche sites to a 10-page site first, then add more when you’ve accomplished that. In fact I’ve known some successful niche bloggers use this 10-page site requirement as a pre-requisite before considering their site is “ready” i.e. ready to do the work of ranking in search engines and to start making money from adsense.

You don’t need to rank every page on a large site. The benefit of a large site is to be able to provide more information to your visitors. In the past people were saying that Google tends to value sites that have a bit more substance than that of say a 2 page site. This has been proven to be totally false as I’ve seen some 2 page-sites ranked on Google’s No. 1 position and beating other bigger sites with higher PR. And they are not the flash in the pan either. The ones I know of are still ranking well.

Larger sites also get rankings for many long-tail keywords even without any backlinks. Therefore it is to your advantage to build more pages because generally you increase your chance of attaining top search engine with more content on your website.

Keep abreast of All Google Changes

As you know Google is known to make many algorithm changes throughout the year and you should stay informed of what these changes are. A good way to do this is by visiting some of your favorite online forums and you will know such news instantly.

Beware Google’s Sandbox

Personally I’d say a new website that is less than 6 months runs a 50-50 chance of getting Google’s Sandbox or sometimes called differently. Till today, Google has never shared any more information as you and I know about the subject which isn’t much. It’s another of Google’s secrets where they don’t really tell anyone much. My insights: I’ve learned to live with such possibility. There are actually 2 ways that you can do something about it. (1) Do continuous linking everyday but don’t overdo it or (2) let it run its natural course and wait and your site will re-appear in the same SERP as when you lost it provided you still do the occasional link building. I’ve actually tried on one of my sites that’s got the sandbox and I used Angela’s high PR links and managed to get it back for 2 days before it disappeared again so I’ll just give it time.

Linking for niche sites – the old and the new way

I still see many bloggers preferring to do link building on their niche sites the old fashion way. While there is nothing wrong in it, personally I think it’s a slower way to increase your adsense income or at least that’s what I learned. What’s this old way – well they create a one page and target just one main keyword phrase throughout the page. Somehow the old way continued even if they had more pages now. The newer way I learned is to optimize each page with at least 2 keyword phrases and apply Latent Semantic Indexing when you are writing. What’s the No. 1 Taboo in Domain Name registration?

It’s got to be using an existing brand name of someone or a corporation. Just taking an example if you try to register a name like sonylaptopsdotcom, you could land yourself in deep trouble not less than getting sued. So don’t jeopardize all the hard work you know starting a brand new site takes when you know you’re violating copyright laws.

What Niche to target?

Take it from someone who’s done more than 20 niche sites – it’s topics that I like that I find I tend to focus more on these sites. Like they say “follow the passion” or “follow the money” how true that is. If it is a product niche there must be buying interest in your market. Then make sure in your posts you include buyers’ keywords too e.g. “discounts”, “best deal”, “cheaper” words like that.

What motivates you?

When I first started niche blogging one year ago I was motivated by other people’s success namely John Xfactor as he earned $500 a day from his army of niche adsense sites. Now I get motivated by my own little success. I get really motivated whenever I could increase my daily adsense taking and when it happens I usually get charged up to write more, do more link building or find something to improve on, on all my 20+ niche sites. Actually I’m in that state again as I write this post as the last 3 days have been good – at more than $20 per day. It just spurs me on. Ok now tell me what motivates you?

The key to building a successful web business even on a small niche is to try to establish yourself as an expert in your area of expertise.

1. There are times being a small webmaster has its advantages too as it can allow you to use your creativity and get things done much faster than a bigger webmaster can. Why is this? Well big companies with big sites need to go through many layers of approval process just to get consensus from everybody on even the smallest type of change to be made on their sites or other matters.

2. The small Internet home business can so easily do any experiments, tweaking on any of their online marketing strategies and if they work, they can make any adjustments very quickly. They would be more willing and able to try out newer techniques in the market which the big websites just wouldn’t be able to do so.

Some Myths About Linking To Lower Page Rank Websites

Link management is a key component of a successful online internet home business. There are many different ways that you can accomplish this not just getting quality links but very relevant links to your work at home business. Getting such links do take time although with the present pace in which new technology has been dishing out more advanced software, people have grown smarter in getting this job done. Learning and mastering SEO, [tag-tec]buying links[/tag-tec], 3-way linking, reciprocal linking, getting [tag-tec]backlinks[/tag-tec] from quality sites like .edu and .gov sites are just some routine jobs in which the average internet marketer goes about doing today. All for the sake of improving their current [tag-tec]search engine ranking[/tag-tec].

However one thing that really puzzles me is that many legitimate home internet business owners do not wish to link to websites which have a lower [tag-tec]page rank[/tag-tec] status. I have personally experienced this myself on a few occasions in the process of completing reciprocal link exchanges with other marketers. I was politely told ‘ we only exchange links with PR3 sites.’ Thankfully I didn’t suffer any disappointment as my site met this requirement for those link exchanges. I have always wanted to find out why people would not want to link to sites with lower page rank and whether their fears were well founded. That led to my mini survey.

I posted this question “Would You Link To A Lower Page Rank Website?” to two of my favorite forums – Warrior Forum and Conquer Your Niche Forum. I wanted to get as many views as I can from internet marketers, veterans as well as newbies to get a sense of how they felt about this topic. Well here is what some of them have to say about this.

“I would if it was something that was useful and relevant to my visitors. I don’t really exchange links anymore though as I prefer to get one way links e.g. through article writing etc as these are more valuable and in my opinion are easier to get.

The most natural thing is linking to sites in the body of your content rather than in a separate directory, which nobody ever visits unless they want to exchange links anyway.

I wouldn’t personally link to completely unrelated sites though e.g. a site on dog care from my legitimate home internet business site, or a site on work at home business from my wedding site.”

“I say stick to sites that are at least somewhat relevant to yours and are quality sites. I know quality is hard to really judge but you can usually tell if a site is complete crap or if it is a good site. If you do that then I wouldn’t worry about PR too much. If it’s a quality site and they are actually trying to grow it then it will eventually have PR.

But after having said that, I usually don’t link to a site unless it has at least a PR1 because that way I know Google at least somewhat likes them, they have been around long enough to get some PR, and they will probably keep going up.One more thing to add…

You have probably heard this a million times before but the PR you see on your toolbar doesn’t mean anything.

To give an example…

I have a website that ranks highly on Google for just about every internet home based business and work at home business related search you can think of. It only has a PR3. It used to have a PR5 a couple years ago but it didn’t have even close to the rankings back then that it has now. It dropped to a PR4 for some reason but the rankings got better. Now it’s only a PR3 but it has not lost any rankings. If anything it has gained them.

That just shows you that a sites quality and rankings can’t be judged simply by looking at the PR.”
