What Was My Mistake On Top Search Engine Ranking?

Well  I was chatting with a good friend of mine online one day, someone who was already earning himself more than 100 dollars a day. I asked him what advice he could give me for a site that is already on Google No. 1 Position? I asked him specifically if I should continue doing link building or should I just ease off, leave it and focus instead on other sites. The reply came quick and he said something like “Don’t do anything. If it ain’t broke why fix it? ” That was 2 years ago.

Well fast forward to today, 2 years later, if someone were to ask me that same question, I would have a totally different answer for him or her.  I would say getting a site to Google’s No. 1 position is not the hardest part. The hardest part is knowing what you must do to keep that site ranking No.1 in Google.  There is no guarantee that it will remain there forever as most of your competitors are like you too. They will in no time displace your site’s position if you choose to be naive. Also Google is always changing its ranking algorithm. Think of Panda and you will understand just what I mean. There’s no rest for the wicked it seems!

The tip I am going to share with you today is found in a post I wrote sometime ago when I first discovered the article distribution site called Ezarticlelink. If you have not read it, here it is :”Discover How zArticleLink Auto Creates Backlinks For Your Blog. My intention then was to create some backlinks for my Learn Affiliate Marketing blog since I had neglected this blog and had practically zero backlinks. So I set up an Article Directory on the blog. Well after 1 year the site has now 1700 indexed pages, 1271 backlinks and PR1. Not bad for just setting it up and doing nothing because these backlinks are generated on auto-pilot.

 How I Get Free Backlinks For Another Site

One of the main advantages of using EzArticleLink is that for every article directory set up by a free member, it allows you to set up another domain in their system. Then you are free to post articles and get backlinks not only to your article directory – but get backlinks to this domain as well if you so choose to by just publishing and linking to its pages. For free membership however the maximum allowable number of posts is ’30′ but considering that each post is published and syndicated to 100+ sites, you get contextual links with your chosen anchor text.  And it’s free and automated, you don’t have to lift a finger. So don’t you think the effort to write and publish any of the 30 articles is worth the thousands of free backlinks you will receive. And it’s only about 30 minutes work per article using their easy system to spin write the articles. Think about it. It’s impossible not to see the benefits of doing this.

If you just stop to think for a minute you would understand how good this really is. We all know that if you want to to rank well in the search engines, you need backlinks-lots of them. And one of the best ways to get lots of quality backlinks is through article marketing. Unfortunately with the recent Google Panda updates, many of the article directories have been penalized by Google . EzArticleLinks seems to be Panda proof at least in the last 2 updates and it also offers a refreshing change to get your backlinks. If getting backlinks is something you constantly do for your online business (and you should) that’s understandable. After all, backlinks play such an important role in our business and we seem to can’t stop doing enough of it ourselves; or buy backlink services sometimes so as to get our sites ranking well. Yet, often enough, they are the cause of many success stories as well as  the pain and struggles of many Internet Marketers trying to make the most out of their blogs or websites. We certainly can relate to all that at some point in time in our Internet Marketing journey. However, today, let’s take a step back to ask ourselves is what we have been doing good enough? Are we getting the just deserts for all the hard work done to acquire our backlinks? If not what else can we do.

A Link is Still a Link. Or is it?

It probably is true when you started your online business 5 years ago. However, in reality, things have changed so much and what was true then may not be relevant and good enough in today’s world. Yes 5 years ago, all you got to do is get yourselves tons of links for your website and you can outrank your competition. It’s now not that easy anymore and you probably know you have to ‘go with the flow’ and consider many other factors too. If you don’t then you lose out. I just have to remind you of some recent Google Algorithm changes to bring this point to you. Like the   Google’s Panda Update or the May Day Update. And don’t forget that Google makes more than 300 algorithm changes annually although not all big ones like these two but suffice to say, you must take actions. I have been following the Link Pyramid with good success so I like to share with you just how powerful this method of link building is: Base Links The foundation of your link pyramid are your base links. As with an actual pyramid, the foundation is the largest part of this virtual structure. You need more base links than any other kind of link. Base links are, for lack of better words, lower quality links. Links from things like lesser article sites, social bookmarking sites, blog comments, links from deep inner pages, etc. It’s important that you have a lot of these kinds of links, because Google’s algorithm thinks that this is “natural.” After all, how likely is it that a web site will have a bunch of super-high-quality links from major web sites and not have magnitudes more links from “lesser” sites? So you want to make sure your link pyramid has a solid foundation of these kinds of links.

Mid-Grade Links
The next level of our link pyramid are your mid-grade links. These are links from web sites that have more authority than the sites mentioned previously, but still may not be top-notch sites. The kind of sites that usually reuse EzineArticles content often fall into this category, as do links from mini-sites and sales letter sites.

Mid-grade sites have a fair amount of links aimed at them in their own right, and so Google sees links coming from them as being more individually valuable than the base links. Of course, that means that you don’t need as many links from these kinds of sites as you do from the base link sites.

Nor should you have more links from these kinds of sites than the base link sites. Remember, it’s all about looking “natural” in Google’s eyes.

Highest-Quality Links
For most long-tail keywords (keywords with less competition in the search engines), you don’t even need the top level in your link pyramid. You can usually rank just fine with the base links and mid-grade links. I have numerous sites ranking quite well for many nice keywords without any top-quality links.

However, when you’re aiming higher, you need to collect higher quality links. By “higher quality”, I mean links from sites that already have a lot of links aimed at them. In Google’s eyes, site with a lot of links aimed at them have “authority”, and anyone these “authority sites” link to must also be important.

The great thing about links from authority sites is that a few links can make a big difference. So while these links are more difficult to acquire, you don’t need nearly as many of them to rank well for your keywords. I’ve brought sites from page two for my keywords in Google to page one with just a dozen or two links of this kind (and I’m talking about some fairly competitive keywords).

Make It Look Natural
For best results your link pyramid should look natural to Google. So this means having a large number of base links, a lesser number of mid-grade links, and just a few top-quality links.

But don’t get too concerned if some of your links tend to belong to more than one category of link types. Don’t get too hung up on this because that adds to the “natural” that your link pyramid has become and that is what Google likes to see.

My Thoughts:

This is one reason why many of my 26 niche sites are ranking on Google’s page 1 without much effort because I used mostly high page rank profile links from Angela Edwards. It has worked so well for the last 2 years that I’ve found myself repeating it so often. Now if you subscribe you are eligible to buy 60 high PR backlinks for just $5.00. Do check it out.

Most times I don’t need to get too many high quality links for my sites unless they are those that are authority sites or when the competition is really outrageously high.

Ok, jokes aside….

This IMT Website Submitter lets you submit your website to 2500+ places for FREE!  All of them are the usual websites that provide the “who is”, “about us”, “website statistics” services.

I have actually used some of these websites each time I have a new site to quickly get Google index and I have to say, they worked for me to get indexed real fast. I did it manually then though submitting to about 20 such sites each time. So I guess having a script that automatically submits for your site and allowing you to put your keyword, takes all the work away. That’s called working smart.

Most of these websites have  been around for some time and are both dofollow or nofollow sites. Because they are established sites you can be sure that they get crawled by the search engines regularly including Google and other SE like Yahoo and Bing. The new pages being created for your websites will be quickly found and you will get them indexed and some backlinks too.

A word of caution

Personally I think this is a great tool to use but you should bear in mind a few things. Don’t expect to receive 2500 backlinks although the post title may have suggested this. You will get some backlinks but not all of them but then again these links are probably not the most sought after or highly valued ones as well. Then again you might say a link is still a link.

For me I used this tool mostly for my many free web 2.0 sites that I’ve created to boost my search engine rankings for all my money making sites.  You could use this tool if you have just set up a new website and wish to get it to a decent SERP ranking. This way there is practically no risk using this free automated too.

You may already know that eBay allows you to create your own blog. But not many realize there is a better way of using your eBay blog to help you in your link building. Essentially what you should do and how you can get the best out of your eBay blog:

• do not start an eBay blog like a normal blog. For God’s sake, don’t start posting hundreds of pages like it’s your WordPress blog. Keep your blog posts to a bare minimum perhaps 2 to 3 posts.

• Use one of your pages to build a List of Resources in which you link out to your Resource Partners. It helps to diversify your link exchange program.

• Obtain quality inbound links to your eBay blog as you would similarly do for your other websites.

• Do not be afraid of linking out to others but especially so to bloggers who are already your link partners. It’s called linking to a link. The rationale is this. When you link to them, you build their authority and in turn you’ve boosted your own page authority and backlink.

That it took only 2 days for Google to index this page and already given a page 2 SERP for one of my keywords I’m currently ranking ‘work at home ideas‘ speaks well about eBay and more importantly this page is now getting a certain amount of Google Juice from it. It’s indeed a pleasant surprise for me although my primary interest in this page remains in facilitating link exchanges with others. It goes to show also that what you decide to name your ebay blog is extremely important (see screenshot).

Why Link with eBay?

Well when I last checked, this site has 56 million inbound links at Yahoo and a PR 8. That alone is good enough for me. But apart from the linking potential it offers, your eBay blog does bring you additional traffic to your own sites or work from home business blog. On the first day that I got my page indexed, I had 65 views for this eBay blog and about 20 views for the post I included “The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks Starts Here“. It may not seem much, but considering it’s the first day and I didn’t do anything to promote it, I’m just a little short of being ecstatic.

Although I’ve yet to venture into the full spectrum of what eBay offers to work from home business owners, my first impression of eBay has been better than I thought. In terms of backlinks, linking opportunities and its vast Google Juice sharing, eBay has shown why it’s one of the greatest sites on earth.

If you have read some or all of my 5-part Link Building Strategy Blog Post Series, you would have realized that a big part of your link building strategy evolves around blog commenting. One of the better known secrets in successful link building is to search for blogs with the Top Commentators list to put your comments especially blogs with similar niche.

Once you have made it to the top commentator list, you will be rewarded with sitewide link and getting some PR link juice. You must remember to leave only good quality comments on these blogs and observe the number one rule: DO NOT SPAM.

These backlinks that you’ve obtained will help you in not only Google PR ranking but Technorati Authority too, which together aim to bring you more search engine traffic to your blog. I have witnessed this change too in my blog, proving that Technorati does track who links to you and accord you with the traffic quite equitably. Again I can’t emphasize enough to focus more on high quality blogs with high PR and with similar niche.

Why is this Top Commentator Plugin this good….this powerful?:

Well someone I know who does blog commenting at blogs with ‘Top Commentator‘s List for just  2 months gets him over 10,000 inlinks???  How? It’s simple ….the Top Commentator links are sitewide (because it’s in the sidebar) and it counts every single page as an inlink. So if you make top commentator on a site with 300 pages, it counts as 300 inlinks.

If I have convinced you to get a link or two from .edu or .govt sites, how would you find these sites to begin with. Well I have found out a quick way to search for such sites. A basic Google search using the following search criteria will show you the blogs you will be looking for :
Search for .edu domains with a blog relative to your website’s keywords
site:.edu inurl:blog “your keyword(s)”
Search for .gov domains with a blog relative to your website keywords
site:.gov inurl:blog “your keyword(s)”

Please be aware that .edu and .gov domains usually have quite strict policies regarding comments left on their blogs, so please, as with any blog, DO NOT SPAM for the sake of a backlink or you will find your efforts futile.

SEO Tip 4-Home Business Ideas – Blog Commenting

Blog commenting is considered to be one of the quickest ways to get themed links to your home business site. All that you need to do is simply leave a comment on related blogs and include some anchored text linking back to your site. It should be something you do it routinely, daily, as part of your link building. There are people who even buy links from others with high PR but if you have a choice, do you want to get one way links for free? Of course you would and it’s so easy to learn how you can do this.

SEO Tip 5-Home Business Ideas – Keywords Meta Tag
