While many of us are too busy trying to increase massive backlinks to our website or home business blog, for the good of succeeding in search engine rankings,  there is one aspect of link building that may be neglected – Natural Link Building.

What is Natural Link Building

“Natural Linking” is said to take place when many bloggers link to the same site or blog. The mere fact that many people painstakingly link to a specific site and recommend their readers check via a hyperlink text the site or post clearly demonstrates a big vote of confidence to this site and contents . I suspect there’s some truth  behind SEO consultants’ claim that search engines have built their ranking algorithms based on existence of natural linking taking place.

Natural links usually takes place  by deep linking to the website or blog, proving yet again how important deep links can be to improve your link building strategy. This was discussed in my post on deep links so do check it out if you’ve missed it.

An Easy Way To Natural Link Building

I’ve actually been doing natural link exchanges with other friends for a long time but recently found a better and more efficient way to do this.  Well this tip works much better for bloggers who have a  whole lot of friends who are bloggers too. If your circle of friends in the blogging community is relatively small, you could still use this tip, but you’d probably take a little longer to find your potential partners, that’s all. (here’s a post which may just help you get started in no time). Anyway, that ought to be a temporary phase given that we all agree your home business success depends a great deal on how successful you are at building good relationships with other bloggers.

Identify Partners, Keyword Phrases

1. The first step is selecting your keyword phrases that you want as your anchor text to link to your blog or web site. In this tutorial, we will use the keyword phrase ‘Make Money Online‘.
2. Secondly you should try to identify  some blogs that have used or written posts containing similar text words ’make money online‘. This is where having a big list of your blogging  friends can really help expedite your search. In this tutorial we’re going to use Work From Home Business‘ peterleehc.com/blog, but it should work for any other sites that you are interested in.
3. Now simply type: ‘make money online -category -tag -archives site:peterleehc.com/blog’. The (-) helps to remove similar posts on these categories. You’ll then be presented with all the posts which have the keyword phrase ‘ make money online’.

Inform and Propose Natural Link Exchanges to other Bloggers

This is the easiest part. You have now identified a suitable post from your favorite blogger or friend which has the same keyword phrase that you are targeting on your blog. Your final task is to email him and propose a natural link exchange, providing your own post too for his consideration. Simple!

I’ve found from my own experience that doing this extra effort goes a long way in getting a natural link exchange done with other bloggers very quicky. We’ve always talked about the importance of providing a solution to our customer’s problems. Well it looks like we could use this lesson we have learned  and apply it to our natural link partners too isn’t it.

Building Your Natural Links…well Naturally

1.  A good strategy to do such natural link exchanges with a good number of blogs is to make it seem as natural as possible. This means try not to exchange too many links with the same blogger or the same post and I’m pretty sure you do have lots of posts you’ve written with the same keyword phrases.

2.  Make your links look natural so do make an effort to blend in the anchor text of words nicely into your paragraph you’ve selected. So don’t use words like “check this post” or “read more from this post on..”

3.  One good thing that may benefit both bloggers is that if you do this correctly, your readers may even appreciate your post even more as you’re providing more value added substance to your post.

4. Besides your usual directory submissions, article submissions, blog commenting which have their own merits in link building, having your fair share of natural link building, gives that much needed boost to your link building strategy. Besides it gives a good balance in in your overall link building techniques and strategy.

It may do you good not to think of natural link building purely for SEO at least not directly. More links can mean more avenues to generate traffic and if you have quality content people will be willing to link to it. Remember the definition of “natural link building” when I first started this post? Well It’s important that all these links appear natural to Google to be able to get in its good books making it seem more organic than an enforced link building task. Well If we can do this all I can say is that it will help us move from a baby step to taking a giant LEAP in doing well for your work at home business.

3. How do I check for any duplicate articles of mine

If you are re-writing some of your articles to be used for other sites submission or on your work at home blog, once your article has been published you can check it for duplication by using Copyscape to search the Internet for duplicate copies. If a duplicate article is found, you will then know that you did not edit yours enough if you intend to use it yourself. Similarly this tool is also useful to see if anyone has plagiarized your articles.

4. How can I tell if someone is stealing my posts and my submitted articles?

On the subject of plagiarizing, another excellent free tool by Google is called Google Alerts. This tool will send you an alert email any time another site or article comes up on the web with the same title that you have set on the Alert. You can then take whatever necessary actions that you deem fit.

5. What would you recommend for Web Hosting

If you don’t have a web hosting service, the two that I use and recommend are HostGator and Host4Profits.

6. How Do I Set Up A Blog

There are free blogging platforms such as Blogger.com, WordPress.com, and Weebly.com, but they are quite restrictive. Most bloggers agree that the best blogging platform is with WordPress.org uploaded to your hosting account. This YouTube video  will show you How to Install Your WordPress Blog

7. I’m looking for someone to ‘ghost write’ articles for me. Where do I find such services?

If you can’t write, or just don’t have the time to do it, but you are able to afford spending a little money, you can hire someone to ghost write the articles for you. You can hire people to do this at eLance, GetACoder, Guru.com for around $20 a page for a well written article that doesn’t require any editing. A more recent one I’ve found is 72-Hour Articles with raving testimonials and even screenshot of Google #1 SERP and the cost is about $7 per article. Also check out forums like Warrior Forum where many people offer such writing services too.

8. I’m looking for a free Article Submitter. What do you recommend?

Writing articles and sending them to a big list of article directories can be very time consuming. You can download Brad Callen‘s free software program, Free Article Submitter that can save you much time and submit your articles easily.

9. How do I submit my posts to social bookmark sites?

There are quite a few you can choose from but the popular ones are: Only Wire, Social Poster and Social Marker.

10. Where can I find dofollow forums?

15. How can I optimize my pictures and can I change from one type to another?

The concept of working from home is a very appealing thing. It seems like most people hate their day job. Someone always has a terrible manager or a boss who treats people unfairly. There is stress with driving to work, stress with gas prices always being high, stress with waking up in the morning and making sure you’re going to clock in on time. The cycle never ends and as the days go by, more and more working from home sounds like an amazing idea.

Working from home is totally a possibility, but unfortunately most people who try, fail. There are common reasons for these failures and these are some of the things that I want to help you with in this article.

Working from home isn’t much different than working a normal job for an employer. The few differences are that instead of reporting to a boss, you report to yourself. Also, instead of someone else holding you accountable to perform your job to standard, you have to hold yourself accountable. People who fail to work from home aren’t really failures, they are instead people who have actually fired themselves. Think about it… if you don’t perform your job well, your boss will fire you. If you attempt to work from home and your don’t perform well, you basically fire yourself.

Success with working from home can be achieved if you place respect in what you want to do. Meaning, if you treat your work at home job just like you treat your day job, the outcome may be much better. I see so many people who work at normal day jobs bust their butts for an entire year just to get a great annual review that will increase their pay by only a few cents per hour. Folks who invest that same mentality into their work at home jobs have a higher chance at success.

Success with working from home can be achieved when you start thinking like your day job boss thinks. Your boss or manager has a ton of responsibility. Your manager has been hired to oversee that things remain profitable for your employer. Study your boss and study why he does the things he does. Believe it or not, and whether you like your boss or not, there is a rhyme and reason behind his madness. If you learn what it is he does to keep your employer’s business profitable, these skills can be transferred down into your own work at home business.

One more piece of advice I will share with you is that commonly people turn to the Internet because for whatever the reason may be, they have drawn the conclusion that making money online is something that is easy. This is far from the truth. Making money online is not easy. Making money online is probably one of the most difficult things to achieve; however, if you find success with earning online, the benefits are amazing. That is one thing most people immediately understand is that the benefits are very rewarding; however, most people choose to ignore the challenges faced with their ventures.

If you want to work from home, that is awesome! We all support you. However, take things slowly. Blueprint your business model, just as if you were charting out a brick and mortar business. The concept of creating an online business almost mirror images the concept of creating an offline business. It is equally as complicated; but fortunately, it is much cheaper. With online business you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars in rent or royalties. Nor do you have to pay for employees.

Write a keyword optimized post and include your main keywords to your website or work at home blog. Then upload it to Scribd. How’s that for simplicity. The good thing about this site is that it has a page rank of 7 and your newly created page gets visited by Google bots and other search engines like Yahoo, MSN all the time. Although my primary interest is SEO ranking, I am getting some traffic too. Since my page was created less than a month ago, I have received 118 views. Nothing to gloat about but then, that’s just a bonus I didn’t plan for so I’m not complaining. Well take a look at my document I uploaded here to see how it looks.

Squidoo (PR8)

Don’t forget your favorite Squidoo lens. There has got to be some truth when I hear just too many bloggers and friends swear how much good their favorite Squidoo lenses have done for them. Could this be a reason why these same people are able to occupy top position at Google despite having chosen highly competitive keywords. Or could it be Google for some unknown reasons just love Squidoo so much or  Squidoo has a way of dominating Google. Well for any scientific proof or another case study, that will have to wait for another post. But for now it may be a good idea to just write a few Squidoo lenses and link to your sites and blogs. EBay (PR8)

If you’ve missed my post on how to get a free backlink from eBay, you can read it here again. This eBay blog was started 2 months ago specifically for link building purposes and as such I’ve exchanged many links with other bloggers on this page. Hopefully this will increase my page rank over time but for now my efforts have helped this ebay blog get to Google’s page 2 for the search term ‘work at home ideas‘.

Free WordPress Blog (PR9)

The biggest advantage of using the Free WordPress Blog, besides that it’s free, is the known fact that having links from different IP addresses is really good for SEO as they are deemed natural linking. So get yourself a free WordPress blog and start linking to your website and blog using your keywords. The good thing about having another WordPress blog is that you’ll enjoy the obvious benefits since all WordPress blogs are of great value. This new blog just got it’s PR1 with the December 2008 Google PR update. Since I first posted about my keyword phrase “Work From Home Ideas” made it to Google Top 10 one month ago, it has remained in this position. Since then, I have had another keyword phrase “Work At Home Ideas” too making it to Google Top 10. I like to think that getting lots of free backlinks certainly feature in my link building strategy, which has in some small ways made this possible in getting a good search engine ranking.

If you have a link building strategy, getting backlinks and finding new ways to obtain them should be something that you constantly focus on as part of a daily routine in your work at home business. As an eBay member you can create your own profile page. Your profile is a nice way to increase your eBay credibility but it doesn’t really bring visitors to your other websites and doesn’t allow link backs. But there is something else that does.

You may already know that eBay allows you to create your own blog. But not many realize there is a better way of using your eBay blog to help you in your link building. Essentially what you should do and how you can get the best out of your eBay blog:

• do not start an eBay blog like a normal blog. For God’s sake, don’t start posting hundreds of pages like it’s your WordPress blog. Keep your blog posts to a bare minimum perhaps 2 to 3 posts.

• Use one of your pages to build a List of Resources in which you link out to your Resource Partners. It helps to diversify your link exchange program.

• Obtain quality inbound links to your eBay blog as you would similarly do for your other websites.

• Do not be afraid of linking out to others but especially so to bloggers who are already your link partners. It’s called linking to a link. The rationale is this. When you link to them, you build their authority and in turn you’ve boosted your own page authority and backlink.

That it took only 2 days for Google to index this page and already given a page 2 SERP for one of my keywords I’m currently ranking ‘work at home ideas‘ speaks well about eBay and more importantly this page is now getting a certain amount of Google Juice from it. It’s indeed a pleasant surprise for me although my primary interest in this page remains in facilitating link exchanges with others. It goes to show also that what you decide to name your ebay blog is extremely important (see screenshot).

Why Link with eBay?

Well when I last checked, this site has 56 million inbound links at Yahoo and a PR 8. That alone is good enough for me. But apart from the linking potential it offers, your eBay blog does bring you additional traffic to your own sites or work from home business blog. On the first day that I got my page indexed, I had 65 views for this eBay blog and about 20 views for the post I included “The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks Starts Here“. It may not seem much, but considering it’s the first day and I didn’t do anything to promote it, I’m just a little short of being ecstatic.

Although I’ve yet to venture into the full spectrum of what eBay offers to work from home business owners, my first impression of eBay has been better than I thought. In terms of backlinks, linking opportunities and its vast Google Juice sharing, eBay has shown why it’s one of the greatest sites on earth.

Everyone knows just how important blog commenting can be in getting you backlinks, establishing your name in your blogging community and hopefully getting the number 1 spot in SERP. But have you actually counted how many backlinks you can get from blog commenting alone? If you’ve read my recent post ‘The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks Starts Here‘ I described some of these obvious benefits to blog commenting but I also included an important revelation:

Well someone I know who does blog commenting at blogs with ‘Top Commentator’s List for just 2 months gets him over 10,000 inlinks??? How? It’s simple ….the Top Commentator links are sitewide (because it’s in the sidebar) and it counts every single page as an inlink. So if you make top commentator on a site with 300 pages, it counts as 300 inlinks.

While I don’t disagree with how Blog Commenting can help you amass a substantial amount of backlinks, how successful you are at it is also determined by what comment strategy you used or how addicted diligent you are in making this effort a routine work before anything else, just to name a couple. I decided to start a little experiment to find out how many backlinks I can obtain for Work From Home Business Blog over 5 days of blog commenting.

Blog Comment Strategy I used:

Special Focus For this Experiment:

• Comment on blogs which have do-follow and Top Commentator List. The easiest way to find the DoFollow blogs is through the use of a search engine called DoFollo.com. Here you can search for DoFollow blogs in your niche by using relevant keywords. For this experiment I used my do-dollow blogs list in ‘The Easiest Way To Get Backlinks Starts Here‘ to find my blogs to comment.

• Focus on PR3 blogs. This is my short term focus as I reckon over 5 days it’s easier to get more backlinks from PR3 blogs than say PR4-PR6. I will change my focus once my experiment ends.

• Contribute only quality comments. If you think you don’t have anything good to add to the conversation, DON’T Comment. Move on to another blog.

• DON’T spam!

• Start with 5 PR3 Blogs on the first day and post comments until you can find yourself in the Top Commentators List (you may have to manual count for blogs which moderate comments).

• On subsequent days go to these 5 blogs and add more comments to maintain or increase your lead over other bloggers. Always aim for the No. 1 spot in the Top Commentators List. If this is not possible, be in this list at least. Comment on 1-2 new blogs and repeat comment strategy.

At all Times:

• When you received a comment give a comment back by visiting the blog. To let everyone know you are dead serious about this, display an icon that says U Comment-I Comment Back

• Reward your Top Commentators each month so as to give recognition as well as attract more people to comment on your blog. Write a Readers Appreciation post monthly as a show of appreciation.

After 5 days of blog commenting using this strategy you will find that you are Top Commentator for about 10-15 blogs. Here are my Results:

Results Analysis:Blog Comment Experiment from Oct 17 – Oct 22 My total backlinks (Inbound Links) increased by 1259 and in fact my Traffic Rank, Google Indexed Pages and Blog Rank have also improved too. It is worth mentioning also that during this experiment, no other linking methods were used e.g. social bookmarking, article marketing, directory submission.

This simple experiment goes to show how effective blog commenting can be in generating you lots of backlinks provided you become Top Commentator at high quality blogs and follow a good comment strategy. My experiment is…well an experiment after all. If you have found other more successful ways to go about getting better results, I really like to hear them. Last night this blog, Work From Home Business Blog got hacked.  Yes, even just barely a few weeks ago, I had seen 2 of my friends’ blogs got hacked. One of them Yan’s, who got hacked, restored it and came back telling everyone about it in his now much talked about post “The Day I Got Hacked”. The other, a lady whom I cannot disclose her name for reasons I will mention later in this post. Oh yeah, it looks as though I’m close to following Yan’s footsteps in writing this post about how my blog got hacked. But first, I ought to rephrase the first sentence to ” Last Night this blog, Work From Home Business Blog Got Hacked….BY ME“. How it happened (11:30 p.m.) I had heard so much about the Threaded Comment Plugin and I wanted to install it on this blog. Somehow even though I could successfully activated the plugin, it didn’t work and the comments displayed looked exactly like before. I checked around for help and was told that I’ve got to replace my original comment.php file with the new one. I did that and as a result a fatal error occurred. The next thing….I lost my blog. I’ve been hacked….by myself. Call for HELP….(11:40 p.m.)

• After trying just about everything including back tracking what I did and trying to undo the damage, this didn’t work. Work From Home Business Blog remained lost, and Ive got myself to thank for.

• I then resorted to contact my host (Host-4-Profit), and knowing that I’ve  a daily blog database backup helped ease some of my nerves now building up. But expecting to hear some good news, Murphy’s Law took control as the H4P guy told me the best option was to seek help from WordPress and that restoring the data from the WordPress tables in my database backup may not resolve the problem too. As I didn’t know who to turn to in Workpress, relying only on my intuition and to expedite things, I insisted that he did the data restoring from my back-up files I sent him.

Database Restoring in Progress(1:50 a.m.) So as there was nothing much I could do,  I decided to turn in for the night or morning. As sleep came, the good news is that it did take my mind off it, but the bad news is that the nightmare came too. I dreamed that the guy told me ” Your blog is gone…finished’ but another guy said ” Hey your WP-database backup helped, BUT…” (alarm rings!!) Awoke to get Good News or Bad News (6.40 am)

• Afraid of the outcome, and feared the worst, I decided to check my emails first to find out the news from the H4P guy. The email said ” Restoring the database from your WP Tables did not solve your problem”. My heart sanked.

• But wait, there was another email from H4P guy and it read “OK, restoring the files from our backup on October 8th appeared to resolve the problem as I can now access it”. That to me were the sweetest 21 words I could ever have dreamed of.

My Blog was down from 11.30 p.m to 2.50 a.m. The “guy” you hear me mentioned about is a certain David Grimes from Host-4-Profit, my host which has never really been tested until last night. I guess when it came to the crunch, it delivered. David, if you are reading this post, thanks again for your great help and support. What you can learned from my painful experience:

• Start backing-up your blog database today using this WP-Database Backup Plugin. Don’t wait for any day longer. You’ll never know when it might happen to you. Installing this plugin is simple. In my case if I didn’t have my backup files, I would have 5 days of data as H4P’s last site and database backup was on Oct 9.

• Find out some useful information about how often it does site or database backup. That should give you added comfort to what you already have as a database backup.

• Find out from your host how you yourself can backup your website files from your webpanel if you don’t already know.  It’s best to do this backup at least twice a month.

• Before changing any business-critical element of your website or blog, do backup for both your website and database. That way, it is fairly quick to restore it to the state it was in right before the problem arose.

If it could happen to me, it could happen to you too

First Reactions on blog hacks recently: Yan: “Who the hell did this to me?” The Lady I mentioned (unnamed to protect the incident): ” To the one who did this to me….I give you my 2 fingers…” Me: “OMG What did I do to deserve this?” Although it was a painful experience for me, on hindsight, it could have been a lot worse if I did not install my WP Database Backup Plugin and receive my daily back-up sent to my email inbox everyday. This was something I felt relief and comfort even in the midst of all my worrying and excited moments. Link to YOUR blog has exact anchor text you want and helps you boost Google Rankings.

No more than 30 outbound links from any page to prevent penalties for link farming.

Viral effect of the link as more bloggers participate, link to your blog with YOUR anchor text, coming from quality content post will spread.
