10 Simple Tips to Fast Loading Website and Home Business Blog

When was the last time you ran a check on how fast your work at home business website loads? Perhaps one month ago? 3 months ago, or the day you had your website created? Don’t you think you owe it to your readers and your subscribers whom you have openly said you’re providing good quality content while quietly saying to yourself how you wish you had more repeat visitors coming to your blog?

You might have one of the greatest looking websites in your niche but very few people are going to see it if it takes such a long time to load

I do not like to visit slow loading websites because the waiting time kills me and time is valuable. But if I have such thoughts, don’t you think my visitors coming to my site think the same way too.

The speed of your website or work from home business blog is the responsibility of the webmaster and you just have to set aside some of that valuable time to make this a periodic tune up. If you are just about to design your new work at home business website, do remember to check out how long it will take to load.

1. Minimize the use of images - The best way to get a fast loading web site is to minimize the use of images. It may be impossible to totally have a site without images and that’s not what I am recommending too. Perhaps set yourself 20% of your website having images. Remember all the popular sites like Google do not have many images. That’s because they place more importance to its load time as well as readers’ on-site experience.

2. Minimize the bytes of your html write-up by deleting all unnecessary characters, and blank spaces for fast loading pages.

3. Minimize the bytes of your website images with an Image Optimizer. This tool allows you to easily optimize your GIFs, animated gifs, JPGs, and PNGs, so they load as fast as possible on your website. I’ve also found out that you can easily convert from one image type to another up to an upload size limit of 300kB. Just to give you an idea what this means, I recently converted the image I had used on Work At Home Internet Business-7 In-Dept Link Building Tips . The picture size reduced from 105.61 KB to 13.09 KB, an unbelievable 87% reduction in bytes.

4. Use a HTML Validator to check out all errors found as such errors will increase your site loading time.

5. Reduce the number of animated GIFs as they take a very long time to load your pages. If it’s really necessary, choose smaller animated gifs.

6. Keep Your Code Clean - If you do use a WYSIWYG editor, most of the time you will receive redundant code added to your pages for example, these empty tags <font> </font>. Removing these excess tags will speed up your load time.

7. Keep your icons simple and small - Try not to use big images on your website. Instead use simple and small icons that add just a little color to attract your visitor’s attention.

8. Remove Anything You Don’t Need – Take a closer look at some of the things that you have put on your work at home business site and you will be amazed at the number of things you could remove, if not needed. This may be in the form of images, embedded sound files, widgets or animated GIFs.

9. Avoid Long Pages – Besides taking a longer time to load, long pages are not well received by your visitors. It’s a better idea to split these long pages into shorter pages which improves the page load up time.

10. Check your load time periodically – Make it a practice to check your website load time. It should be in your mental checklist to ensure a fast and error free site. Here is a website analyzer that you can use to quickly check it for your website.

Well as promised in my recent post Legitimate Home Internet Business: Review of My Blog Get Free Linkback, I’m here again giving my linkbacks to people who have responded. This is my review of the second batch of bloggers who have participated and provided me with the required information. I am happy to see more people realising the true benefits of this fun-filled review my blog/link exchange with a twist. Batch 3 review has just been scheduled to be published within the next 2 days.

It really looks like a “Network” of good quality legitimate home internet business programs, Resources, Featured Opportunities, Coaching/Mentoring and Articles Archives. In fact developing and building a good business network is one of the most fundamental and vital components of a successful internet home business. When I first visited Patricia’s blog/homepage, I was just starting out on my business and like most other newbies, was pretty much overwhelmed by what’s going on and getting caught up in the “too much to learn, so little time” syndrome.

I had found my visits to her site very beneficial for my own development and personal learning growth. So for a newbie, visiting this blog is definitely an eye opener and an enriching experience but for the experienced marketers, it is something they can expect from another seasoned marketer. They are here perhaps to update themselves and learn new skills or knowledge especially since Patricia is the member support director for PlugInProfitSite.com, a moderater at the Internet Marketing Warrior Forum, and a Certified Veretrainer in Veretekk. With such credentials, it is only natural to expect her blog choke-full of good quality stuff for the serious marketer, but for those finding the Internet Marketing journey a little tough, well she has much to share and impart her knowledge too. In her articles, she constantly reminds people to remember to “walk your dog”, ” take a break with your kids” and other work-life balance suggestions, something which I seldom see from other bloggers.

What I really liked about her Internet Marketing Online Affiliate Programs blog is that it doesn’t follow conventional blog designs and format. Her choice of broad categories of Network, Coaching & Mentoring, Affiliate Programs, Opportunities, Resources, instead of a One List of Categories is spot on and is as good as it gets. Any new internet home business owners wanting to get ideas on “how to” for creating and designing a new blog can learn a thing or two here. But I suspect, not before having enjoyed lots of good articles she has written over the years covering topics that you could benefit from, for your legitimate home internet business. Thanks for taking time to review my blog Patricia, my mentor, my friend.

Internet Home Business: How Keywords Can Get You Top Search Engine Rankings (Part 2)

Your legitimate home internet business keyword ranking at Search Engines can be easily attained by experienced SEO experts. Is this a fair statement? Of course it is, provided you are an SEO expert, or engaged one, someone who provides SEO services including search marketing and web analytics and practices optimization for about a decade.

Here are a few websites that you may find very useful for your legitimate home internet business especially for link building. They will be used in this as well as the next few topics. You will find them very useful for getting things done.

Well the truth is not everyone can afford to pay an arm and a leg for SEO services unless you know a family member or close friend who can advise you for free. Not withstanding this, the real work still has to be done by you anyway, and SEO is an onging process. Maybe this is as good a time as ever to appeciate Nike’s motto “Just Do It”.

Determine Relevant Keywords
For your website
1. Obtain a list of all your relevant keywords to be used using the keyword suggestion tool. If you do not have a good list of such keywords I suggest that you do a little research at other sites in your business niche to get some ideas. Catalog all the keywords your new page will contain. Fill your pages with 1/2 of these keywords and rotate in new keywords every now and then. Maintain the listing of these keywords on your page with a keyword density analyzer.

Keyword Density
I suspect keyword density may bring up some debate about how critical this is for SEO. While this discussion warrants another separate post, it is sufficient to say at this juncture that there are different opinions about what is the ideal keyword density. However an SEO specialist whom I’ve had the pleasure of consulting with and who has done extensive SEO testing has advised that keywords density should not be greater than 5% and not more than 71 keywords in the page.

For new pages
2. Determine one primary keyword phrase to set as a goal for top search engine rankings. Fill your page with this phrase exactly 3 times and another 2 times with a secondary keyword phrase. Example: “legitimate home internet business” on your page 3 times and “work at home internet business” 2 more times. For new sites, it is recommended that you focus on those keyword phrases with a low to medium search volume. Phrases with a high search volume take a much longer time to get top ranking because of higher competition. Use your selected keyword phrase for 30% of your backlink titles and 3 to 5 other supporting phrases for 70% of your backlink titles. When all these keywords get to top 17 at one search engine, select additional keyword titles and repeat the process.

Keyword Linking Technique - How You Want Others To Link To You
One of the most important keyword linking techniques adopted by experienced internet marketers is to get your link partner to use your chosen keywords as their chosen anchor text when linking to you. Maybe this is something simple to do, yet it’s the most influential factor that affects your search engine ranking, so it’s really worth doing this.

What you can do
Get in touch with your friends, business partners and other bloggers to link to your site or page using your chosen keywords in anchor text. If you explained how they too will benefit from an SEO perspective and that you will reciprocate, you can be sure that they will be most happy to do so.

Need more proof?
In March 2007 John Chow, a familiar name by now, caused quite a sensation in the blogging fraternity when he ran a promotion on his blog where he will link back to you if you do a review of his blog. His requirement? That you just link to his site and page with his chosen specific keyword phrase “make money online”. Most people were happy to link with him even with this condition and at the end of his link building campaign, hundreds of people had participated and his keywords ‘make money online’ ranked # 2 in Google.

How To Get Websites To Link To You With Chosen Keywords
1. You probably agree with me that although you know it’s important, submitting to many directories for your website or blog can be such a painful experience. Well perhaps if tell you how to get the best out of such submissions, it might just ease the pain a little. Ready? When you are submitting to a directory, you will usually see a screen, which looks like this:

In the area where you are asked for the Site Name/Title, this is where you should type in your keyword phrase instead of your site name. Do take note that different directories use different naming conventions here. I would then use ‘Work At Home Internet Business‘ if this is my chosen keyword phrase.

All other inputs like URL, email address remain pretty much the same and should be typed in accordingly following what you’ve been doing all the time.

2. You could think of a good linkbait to use. Something that appeals to bloggers who would thank you for doing so. Maybe along the line of a review of your blog offer.

3. You could also think of an ingenius contest that attracts bloggers to your blog like bees to honey. Everyone likes a contest especially if there is a good prize and a link back. All that’s left for you to do is set the golden rule to link back using your targeted keyword.

Get Authority Links For Your Internet Home Business

Do you think you can succeed in your Legitimate Home Internet Business without ever learning SEO specifically link building?

You probably know by now that one of the most effective ways to improve your site’s ranking is by building and increasing quality backlinks into your work at home business site. Many people still struggle with this process, especially if you are a new internet marketer. Even for the more experienced marketer new to SEO, it can be quite a daunting task learning the complexities of what sites you should be targeting and grappling with things like if too many outbound links can hurt you and your legitimate home internet business. They may also have not fully understood that both authority and relevance go hand in hand in good search engine optimization too.

Many SEO consultants firmly believed that backlinks account for about 80% of a page’s placement in the search engines, with the other 20% coming from your website format and other onsite optimization work. So clearly, if you want a particular page to get higher traffic when people type any of your internet home business keywords into Google and other search engines, you really need backlinks, lots of them.

Today we are faced with so many link opportunities it can be quite daunting, and it always raises the question: “Where do I begin?”. But what links matter, and what links don’t?. How does one find a “good” link from such a massive number of potential link sources to search from?. I figured it will be too much to discuss every aspect of these link sources in one post, so I will focus only on Authority Sites in this post.

What’s An Authority Site
Essentially, an authority site is one that has a large number of inbound links from other well-linked sites. These sites have been in business for some time and usually have high page ranks accorded to them. The quality of its inbound link structure determines its authority and upon linking to other sites, passes on its votes and popularity as well to them. Simply put, obtaining links from authority sites is vitally important to you if you wish to improve your search engine ranking. Linking to an authority site also helps you maintain and improve your general online creditability.

Technorati
When looking for authority sites, Technorati comes up a top favorite for me. Due to its massive traffic and established reputation it has, Technorati offers you the most updated and most relevant results in its search functions. You can use its advanced option, type in your work at home business keywords in the ‘Blog Directory Search’ box and just put ‘high authority’ as sort option. This gives you quite an awesome list of blogs with very high authority and other information like the number of inbound links to each of the related tags. You can then select the relevant sites which have the most inbound links to include in your link building work.

Wikipedia
Since 2001 when it first existed, Wikipedia has been getting lots of attention and because of its high rankings, it may benefit your link building journey to search here for authority links. Check out the External Links list found at the bottom of most pages for the list of sites they recommend.

.edu and .gov Websites
With only a little effort required I’ve found an easy way to search these sites by using Google search which shows you the blogs you are looking for:

Search for .edu domains with a blog relative to your website’s keywords:
site:.edu inurl:blog “your keyword(s)”

Search for .gov domains with a blog relative to your website keywords:
site:.gov inurl:blog “your keyword(s)”

Enter your relative keywords where the phrase keyword “your keyword(s)” appears and you will get numerous blogs listed with those .edu extensions. Similarly, if you substitute .gov for the .edu and you will find the sites with .gov extensions.

Start Your Link Building Today
The pyramid on this page shows one simple method you can visualize and think about link building as steps from easiest and lowest cost, to the most difficult and highest cost.

Start focusing on the authority sites first remembering the premise that getting 100 high quality links is far better than getting 1000 weaker links. As the pyramid shows, the bulk of links the average marketer gets come from link sources which are of less value but easier to obtain. Therefore by focusing on getting these high authority links will go a long way in building a strong link building foundation for your legitimate home internet business.
