This Top Commentator for The Month of January goes to …(drumroll) Ben Pei (again) of PeiProfit. As you might know, Ben was also the top commentator here for December. Actually it comes as no surprise to me as I’ve seen him clinched the top spots at so many other blogs, including the famous John Chow’s. I’m not sure how he did that but he’s probably smiling to himself for this achievement. That probably contributed to his massive inbound links as I did a quick check today and found tons of JC backlinks. Well Ben perhaps one day you can let in on your secret, or is that reserved for your ebook?

Another reason why I’m not surprised in him getting top commentator here is probably because he recently wrote Be A Top Commentator, Do The Right Thing. Obviously if he is advising people how to become a top commentator, naturally he has to become one too. This shows that you do walk the talk, Ben.

While many of us are too busy trying to increase massive backlinks to our website or home business blog, for the good of succeeding in search engine rankings,  there is one aspect of link building that may be neglected – Natural Link Building.

What is Natural Link Building

“Natural Linking” is said to take place when many bloggers link to the same site or blog. The mere fact that many people painstakingly link to a specific site and recommend their readers check via a hyperlink text the site or post clearly demonstrates a big vote of confidence to this site and contents . I suspect there’s some truth  behind SEO consultants’ claim that search engines have built their ranking algorithms based on existence of natural linking taking place.

Natural links usually takes place  by deep linking to the website or blog, proving yet again how important deep links can be to improve your link building strategy. This was discussed in my post on deep links so do check it out if you’ve missed it.

An Easy Way To Natural Link Building

I’ve actually been doing natural link exchanges with other friends for a long time but recently found a better and more efficient way to do this.  Well this tip works much better for bloggers who have a  whole lot of friends who are bloggers too. If your circle of friends in the blogging community is relatively small, you could still use this tip, but you’d probably take a little longer to find your potential partners, that’s all. (here’s a post which may just help you get started in no time). Anyway, that ought to be a temporary phase given that we all agree your home business success depends a great deal on how successful you are at building good relationships with other bloggers.

Identify Partners, Keyword Phrases

1. The first step is selecting your keyword phrases that you want as your anchor text to link to your blog or web site. In this tutorial, we will use the keyword phrase ‘Make Money Online‘.
2. Secondly you should try to identify  some blogs that have used or written posts containing similar text words ’make money online‘. This is where having a big list of your blogging  friends can really help expedite your search. In this tutorial we’re going to use Work From Home Business‘ peterleehc.com/blog, but it should work for any other sites that you are interested in.
3. Now simply type: ‘make money online -category -tag -archives site:peterleehc.com/blog’. The (-) helps to remove similar posts on these categories. You’ll then be presented with all the posts which have the keyword phrase ‘ make money online’.

Inform and Propose Natural Link Exchanges to other Bloggers

This is the easiest part. You have now identified a suitable post from your favorite blogger or friend which has the same keyword phrase that you are targeting on your blog. Your final task is to email him and propose a natural link exchange, providing your own post too for his consideration. Simple!

I’ve found from my own experience that doing this extra effort goes a long way in getting a natural link exchange done with other bloggers very quicky. We’ve always talked about the importance of providing a solution to our customer’s problems. Well it looks like we could use this lesson we have learned  and apply it to our natural link partners too isn’t it.

Building Your Natural Links…well Naturally

1.  A good strategy to do such natural link exchanges with a good number of blogs is to make it seem as natural as possible. This means try not to exchange too many links with the same blogger or the same post and I’m pretty sure you do have lots of posts you’ve written with the same keyword phrases.

2.  Make your links look natural so do make an effort to blend in the anchor text of words nicely into your paragraph you’ve selected. So don’t use words like “check this post” or “read more from this post on..”

3.  One good thing that may benefit both bloggers is that if you do this correctly, your readers may even appreciate your post even more as you’re providing more value added substance to your post.

4. Besides your usual directory submissions, article submissions, blog commenting which have their own merits in link building, having your fair share of natural link building, gives that much needed boost to your link building strategy. Besides it gives a good balance in in your overall link building techniques and strategy.

It may do you good not to think of natural link building purely for SEO at least not directly. More links can mean more avenues to generate traffic and if you have quality content people will be willing to link to it. Remember the definition of “natural link building” when I first started this post? Well It’s important that all these links appear natural to Google to be able to get in its good books making it seem more organic than an enforced link building task. Well If we can do this all I can say is that it will help us move from a baby step to taking a giant LEAP in doing well for your work at home business.

The concept of working from home is a very appealing thing. It seems like most people hate their day job. Someone always has a terrible manager or a boss who treats people unfairly. There is stress with driving to work, stress with gas prices always being high, stress with waking up in the morning and making sure you’re going to clock in on time. The cycle never ends and as the days go by, more and more working from home sounds like an amazing idea.

Working from home is totally a possibility, but unfortunately most people who try, fail. There are common reasons for these failures and these are some of the things that I want to help you with in this article.

Working from home isn’t much different than working a normal job for an employer. The few differences are that instead of reporting to a boss, you report to yourself. Also, instead of someone else holding you accountable to perform your job to standard, you have to hold yourself accountable. People who fail to work from home aren’t really failures, they are instead people who have actually fired themselves. Think about it… if you don’t perform your job well, your boss will fire you. If you attempt to work from home and your don’t perform well, you basically fire yourself.

Success with working from home can be achieved if you place respect in what you want to do. Meaning, if you treat your work at home job just like you treat your day job, the outcome may be much better. I see so many people who work at normal day jobs bust their butts for an entire year just to get a great annual review that will increase their pay by only a few cents per hour. Folks who invest that same mentality into their work at home jobs have a higher chance at success.

Success with working from home can be achieved when you start thinking like your day job boss thinks. Your boss or manager has a ton of responsibility. Your manager has been hired to oversee that things remain profitable for your employer. Study your boss and study why he does the things he does. Believe it or not, and whether you like your boss or not, there is a rhyme and reason behind his madness. If you learn what it is he does to keep your employer’s business profitable, these skills can be transferred down into your own work at home business.

One more piece of advice I will share with you is that commonly people turn to the Internet because for whatever the reason may be, they have drawn the conclusion that making money online is something that is easy. This is far from the truth. Making money online is not easy. Making money online is probably one of the most difficult things to achieve; however, if you find success with earning online, the benefits are amazing. That is one thing most people immediately understand is that the benefits are very rewarding; however, most people choose to ignore the challenges faced with their ventures.

If you want to work from home, that is awesome! We all support you. However, take things slowly. Blueprint your business model, just as if you were charting out a brick and mortar business. The concept of creating an online business almost mirror images the concept of creating an offline business. It is equally as complicated; but fortunately, it is much cheaper. With online business you don’t have to pay thousands of dollars in rent or royalties. Nor do you have to pay for employees.

Zimbio (PR6)

It is a social networking site that allows you to find out about the latest topics that appeal to you, but more importantly for me, it promotes and syndicates two of my home business blogs and getting valuable backlinks, and traffic at the same time. That this is a PR6 just makes me wonder why I didn’t discover this site much earlier. Here, take a look at my Zimbio page

Wikidot (PR 7)

According to Wikipedia A Wiki is a type of website that allows users to add, remove, or otherwise edit and change most content very quickly and easily. Here is one wiki I made and link to my website and blog using my keywords I’m ranking: http://work-from-home-ideas.wikidot.com/

Scribd (PR 7)

Write a keyword optimized post and include your main keywords to your website or work at home blog. Then upload it to Scribd. How’s that for simplicity. The good thing about this site is that it has a page rank of 7 and your newly created page gets visited by Google bots and other search engines like Yahoo, MSN all the time. Although my primary interest is SEO ranking, I am getting some traffic too. Since my page was created less than a month ago, I have received 118 views. Nothing to gloat about but then, that’s just a bonus I didn’t plan for so I’m not complaining. Well take a look at my document I uploaded here to see how it looks.

Squidoo (PR8)

Don’t forget your favorite Squidoo lens. There has got to be some truth when I hear just too many bloggers and friends swear how much good their favorite Squidoo lenses have done for them. Could this be a reason why these same people are able to occupy top position at Google despite having chosen highly competitive keywords. Or could it be Google for some unknown reasons just love Squidoo so much or  Squidoo has a way of dominating Google. Well for any scientific proof or another case study, that will have to wait for another post. But for now it may be a good idea to just write a few Squidoo lenses and link to your sites and blogs. EBay (PR8)

If you’ve missed my post on how to get a free backlink from eBay, you can read it here again. This eBay blog was started 2 months ago specifically for link building purposes and as such I’ve exchanged many links with other bloggers on this page. Hopefully this will increase my page rank over time but for now my efforts have helped this ebay blog get to Google’s page 2 for the search term ‘work at home ideas‘.

Free WordPress Blog (PR9)

The biggest advantage of using the Free WordPress Blog, besides that it’s free, is the known fact that having links from different IP addresses is really good for SEO as they are deemed natural linking. So get yourself a free WordPress blog and start linking to your website and blog using your keywords. The good thing about having another WordPress blog is that you’ll enjoy the obvious benefits since all WordPress blogs are of great value. This new blog just got it’s PR1 with the December 2008 Google PR update. Since I first posted about my keyword phrase “Work From Home Ideas” made it to Google Top 10 one month ago, it has remained in this position. Since then, I have had another keyword phrase “Work At Home Ideas” too making it to Google Top 10. I like to think that getting lots of free backlinks certainly feature in my link building strategy, which has in some small ways made this possible in getting a good search engine ranking.
