You probably already know that Google now uses your page load time as a an algorithm for ranking your blog or website. Here is some information to read from Google Webmaster on Site Speed importance to keep you up to speed if you have not heard about this.  I knew that too but like most people, have been busy with other things to really set aside time to seriously do something about it. Well last week I was forced to do so because a serious technical problem cropped up and I was working with Hostgator to fix it. The solution called for installing a simple WP Plugin that could save this blog from a serious disaster waiting to happen. I like to share with you so that that same problem never happened to you.

The Technical Problem reported by Hostgator:

“This message is to advise you of a temporary block placed on your database. The database “/var/lib/mysql/peterlee_com/” was found to be consuming an inordinate amount of processor time, to the point of degrading overall system performance. While we do limit each account to no more than 25% of a system’s CPU in our terms of service, we do not actively disable accounts until they greatly exceed that number, which is what happened in this case.”

Because this problem posed a security risk, my blog was disabled while a solution given to me was….INSTALL W3-TOTAL-CACHE plugin

What are the benefits of using this plugin?

1. Essentially what this plugin does is it provides basic caching and stores your data so that any future request for the same data is retrieved faster from the cache and not from the server. By doing so it significantly reduces the processing burden on your server. If you have high traffic for your blog, using this plugin could save a lot of unnecessary headache of a server overload issue.

2. It significantly reduces your blog’s page load time and needless to say improves your visitor’s user experience on your blog. In technical terms this helps to greatly reduce the CPU required to run a WordPress blog and let you process more traffic while using less CPU. That’s a big factor to bring in repeat visitors to your blog.

3. At least 10x improvement in overall site performance

4.Up to 80% bandwidth savings via minify and HTTP compression of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and feeds

Why CPU Overload Can Be an Expensive Issue

I had previously (and wrongly) thought that CPU overload could only happen to big blogs that have tons of traffic, but what happened to my blog just proved this is not true. There could be other factors too that could easily eat up your CPU resources like the countless number of plugins we try to install to create the perfect user experience for our visitors.

Upgrading to a dedicated server could solve the problem but that is an expensive option, Hostgator tells me a basic dedicated server starts at $179 per month.

Important note before you upload W3-Total-Cache

This plugin is not compatible to older versions of WP as I found out the hard way. My blog was using WP ver2.6 and the upload crashed my blog. I had to upgrade to WP3.0 before it was successful.

To check if you have successfully uploaded your plugin open up any of your blog post and check the source code. You should see this:

Starting a new internet business opportunity is an exciting prospect. We have high hopes for success and we know that there are millions of people on the internet and if we can just get a tiny percentage of those people to visit our new web site, we will be home free. Sounds like a plan, right? The internet can be a confusing place to start a business, take it from someone who has over 30 years of on-land experience; the transition to the internet has its own set of new and unique problems to overcome before the money starts rolling in.

The first and most important tip I want to offer you is this one: the internet highway is not paved with gold, it is paved with obstacles that, if you are not aware of them, will trip you up on your way to what you may think is an easy way to make money. There is no easy, simple way to make money anywhere, least of all on the internet. The only people that I know of who are making easy money on the internet are the ones who are peddling the scams that say there is easy money to be made on the internet!

My experience has shown me that the reality of making money on the internet is this; it’s harder to make money on the internet for a similar land line business for the simple fact that there is a middle man between you, the business owner, and your potential customers, all of those millions of people zooming around the internet. Out in the real world, all you need to do to open up a business is to open a store and, if you were on a busy street, you would have customers in your store in the first 5 minutes. Not so for your internet business opportunity.

You set up your web site, you turn on the switch, you are live and open and then what? Where are the millions of people zooming around the internet, where are your customers? This is where that middleman comes in that I mentioned at the beginning. That middleman holds the key to your success and your traffic. The middle man that I am talking about is the gate keepers to the traffic on the internet, the search engines. Like you, I was obviously aware of what the search engines did, and was fairly familiar with how they did it, what I was not familiar with was how that all fit into me opening up my first internet home business.

A mistake that I made was not sitting down with someone who understood this relationship with a new internet business and how I needed to get set up properly to make sure that I would get a least a tiny fraction of all of that internet traffic. It does not matter how many millions of people are on the internet, if they do not know you exist, and visit your web site, you might as well be in the middle of the desert for all the good they are going to do you.

You need to zero in on any internet business opportunity you may be considering and ask yourself this one vitally important question;

“Who is going to know I am in business and how am I going to get them to visit my web site?“

You could end up with the best business on the internet, you could have the most amazing web site, none of that will matter unless you can solve the issue all internet businesses have, getting that all elusive traffic to your web site. I wish someone had written an article like this when I first started out. I wish they then would have stapled it my forehead and made me read it every day for a month BEFORE I did anything about starting my first web site. If they had, I would have done things 100% differently. Take my advice; address the traffic generating steps you need to take before you think about starting any internet business opportunity.

The best place to look for getting good solid free advice on this topic is the blogs and forums on the internet. There are hundreds of them out there, all of the advice is up there to read for free. The information in almost all of the cases comes from people who have gone through this situation and have advice on how to overcome this problem.

My advice on this topic is simple and direct; the way to get real organic traffic to your web site is to make sure you have the freshest, most original content on your market and the search engines and the traffic will find you, eventually! Have a great day.

As you know early this month Google has fully implemented Google Caffeine and I’ll probably write a post on that soon. But for now while most of us may not know to what extent it’s going to impact us, suffice to say Google now finds fresh content on any given topic much faster than before and shown in Google index in seconds.

While still trying to grasp how the changes impact us, there is a lot of talk that with such real time updates, the competition is going to go only in one direction – up! and your search engine ranking could possibly be in danger of dropping. We also know that the social networks are going to play a big part of how Google Caffeine might impact us.

Only time will tell when the dust settles just what Google Caffeine will adversely affect us. But here is something that I found that might cushion the impact, albeit a very small help perhaps. Well here it is:

1. First you need to locate where your twitter account feed is. Go to your twitter account url like mine’s http://twitter.com/peterleehc

2. Look for a link that has this text “RSS feed of Username’s Updates”. Copy the url and just save it to a text file. You’re going to use it later. Mine looks like this:http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/14239758.rss so make sure you’re seeing something like this.

3. Then finally start promoting this RSS feed to all your favorite RSS Aggregators. It’s that simple.

Why promote your Twitter RSS feed to RSS Aggregators?

1. It’s supposed to help increase your Twitter’s Google Page Rank. Well not that it means so much but for ego boosting

2. Whenever you tweet with a link, your tweet automatically updates all these RSS Aggregators that you had your twitter RSS feed submitted to. Pretty cool huh? You get immediate backlinks from the whole blogosphere in just one tweet.

3.I’m sure you have already been submitting your website feeds to your favorite RSS Aggregators. I am using Big Mike’s RSSBot which automatically sends to more than 30 RSS Aggregators at one click. Don’t worry I’m not promoting this product and this is not an affiliate link, but just in case you like to own such a great tool (It costs about $30 and another $20 a month if you wish to promote as an affiliate ).

It’s been 6 months since I ventured into building micro niche adsense sites following John XFactor’s Adsense Master Course blueprint. My 6-month Google Adsense Report Card

1. Track My Results:

Just like in any new online business opportunity you’ve started, it is important to track your own progress closely. You then rinse and repeat the process that got you the good results and for others that failed to meet your expectation, well the analysis begins.

2. My Micro Niche Adsense Websites – Useful Statistics

• Number of adsense websites created                         – 9
• Websites on Google’s Page 1                                    – 9
• Websites on Google’s Top 3 positions                        – 5

3. How I achieved Google’s Page 1 Results

Simple. I just followed XFactor’s ebook to the Tee. I did share this in my post “John XFactor’s Micro Niche Adsense-The Adsense Lessons I Learned” including purchasing the Micro Niche Adsense Finder as well as the XSite Pro2.  For backlink building and getting to top of search engine ranking I joined Angela’s Backlink Builders Program. The program works very well giving you 30 high page rank websites at an absurdly price of just $5.00 per month.

My Strategy To Increase My Google Adsense Revenue

I have been monitoring my adsense earnings generated by my top 3 niche websites and they have consistently contributed to more than 50 per cent of each month’s adsense revenue. In March, I focused most of my attention and effort into these 3 sites including getting more backlinks and  adding more pages. However adding more pages to the main website is really the easy part and it’s pretty easy with my Xsite-Pro2. What is more important and perhaps made the real difference in the results achieved is putting the icing on the cake. Well this is what I did:

More keyword Research:

As you know my 3 main websites are already on Google’s top 3 positions for the keywords that I am ranking due to all my backlinking work. They have consistently remained in these positions and the CPC is pretty good. Before I go adding a new page to each of these 3 websites, I do a quick keyword research using my Micro Niche Finder. This time I looked for a few potential keyword phrases that are more competitive but still related to my main keyword I am ranking for my homepage. I then used my favorite site Spyfu dot com to find the highest cost per click from each of these potential keyword phrases that advertisers are prepared to pay. Then I write my usual content and add my new page using this newly found keyword phrase. Then do the same of the other 2 websites. Job done!

The reason why this method works is because in the new keyword phrases that I found, I am not trying to rank in the search engines. That would be silly as I stand no chance at all of making it as they are highly competitive. I still continue to rank just for my homepage’s keyword phrase. When my visitors click my homepage, they will now proceed to other new pages (link is made visible on the homepage) to look for more information. When they do so, any click on these new pages get me a higher adsense revenue because of the higher CPC.

Five months ago, I don’t think I would have asked this question about optimizing your blog or website for Bing, then called the MSN search engine. Five months ago, I wasn’t interested in Bing because non of my websites ever ranked in its search engine. My focus was and still is on Google and it made sense because afterall MSN Search receives only about 9% of web searches compared with Google and Yahoo. But my thinking and focus somewhat changed quite recently.

What happened 5 months ago?

OK enough with the suspense. 5 months ago I launched my Micro Niche Adsense Websites and you probably have read a few of my posts providing some updates on their progress like how I crossed $100 adsense earnings in the same month. To date I now have 8 micro adsense sites and I set all of them up as static websites as opposed to wordpress blogs I had so far been using previously. I did have other reasons for doing so but never came close to any of those I would discover 6 months later.

While my micro niche adsense websites have been earning me some decent income, the most likely thing to happen to new websites that tried to rank too quick too soon on Google’s page one, did in fact happen to me too. I am referring to getting the Google Sandbox for some of my websites.

After some research on Google Sandbox I concluded that there was nothing I could do and the best option was to accept it and continue doing backlink building so that when they get out of it, they emerged stronger in search engine ranking. Having said that I did what I could to make a few of these websites “reappear” again albeit temporarily each time for a few days. I did this legitimately through getting backlinks from different sources after much testing done. How I learned to index my Angela’s backlinks specifically using Google Slingshot helped me achieved just that.

I accidentally stumbled upon a wonderful solution

Recently while those few adsense sites continued to remain banished from Google’s page one ranking, I was surprised to find traffic coming to these sites. This wasn’t supposed to be I told myself. It was indeed a nice problem to have but I soon found out the reason why. I was getting traffic not from Google but from both Yahoo and Bing, something that has never happened before.

How can you rank well in Bing?

While it’s important to always focus on Google to get most of your search engine traffic, don’t ignore whatever traffic you may get from Bing, or Yahoo for that matter. This applies to my case more because I was looking for a solution for my Google sandboxed sites and it did somewhat help during the “blackout” period. Also getting more traffic from another search engine is always welcomed, don’t you think? Trickles it may be, but for my adsense sites this traffic is pretty targeted.

Bing has a FAQ which provides some useful information on some of the on-site seo so that you can rank well in their search engine which includes:

• Target a maximum of only two keywords per page
• Use H1 tags
• Use text navigation links
• place keyword in url

According to a report from Tech Crunch it states that Bing users are more likely to click ads than Google users. If this is to be believed anyone setting up an adsense site simply cannot ignore Bing and what having a Bing search engine optimized website can do for your adsense income. I said it before that while almost all my niche sites are on page 1, not all of them are #1 positions so I don’t get much impressions for some of them. But because my CTR for these sites is good, having more impressions coming from Bing just puts the icing on the cake.

How to check if Bing is helping your website or blog:

1. Simply go to Bing’s webmaster centre and click the button for “Add a site” and provide your URL and then verify your site.  To do this and quite similar to Google Webmaster, add the meta tag provided to the head section of your blog. Finally click on the site you have added and go to its summary page. Here you will find useful information like when your site was last crawled by Bing, and what backlinks your site has.

2. Here is a utility tool that you can use to check how your keyword ranks and it displays the results for both Google and Bing side by side.

Final Thoughts

While I’m not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill, and I’ll still focus on Google search engine optimization, I now see Bing and Yahoo in a different light. From my own experience but without proof this is what I think about Bing:

• Bing favors sites with keyword in the url (all my niche sites have them)
• Unlike Yahoo, Bing counts backlinks only from dofollow sites favoring anchor text keywords
• I’ve not seen many blogs in Bing so I like to think that Bing likes static websites more than blogs, possibly their bots found them easier to crawl.
• Bing shows about half of my backlinks compared with Yahoo and they favor high PR do follow websites

Throughout my few years of blogging for my home business blog I have had the pleasure of meeting such wonderful friends and know for a fact that’s one of the reasons it kept me blogging. In terms of how my blogger friends write their content for their blogs, I would say they fall into 2 categories of bloggers.

The first category of bloggers write for their blog readers as well as the search engines especially Google. The second group of readers write exclusively for their readers and will never allow themselves to be subject to having to change their writing to please the Google bots. I belong to the first group. Which type of blogger are you?

All right, so now you know which type of blogger I am. Which category of blogger are you and why? Do share your thoughts by giving your comment at the end of this post.

Well whenever I blog although I write predominantly for readers, I never do much research on what kind of topics my readers prefer to read based on the current trend or any recent newsworthy events in the Internet Marketing world. Perhaps I should but I just write whatever comes to mind and I think is interesting enough for my readers. That probably is not the best way if you’re writing contents specifically to generate more traffic to your blog. After all this translates to how to make money blogging too right?

Well today I was asking myself if I had to write a blog post with information that my readers prefer to read today where on earth would I go to find this out. Fortunately it didn’t take me long to find this out. Here’s what I found out:

If you are using a wordpress blog, click on the “Blog Stats” link found in your WP dashboard and it then displays a statistics page. Next click on “Top Posts & Pages”. When I am here, all my most viewed pages by my readers are displayed with selected views of 7 days, 30 days, Quarter and even for the full year. That’s very useful information about what kind of topics your visitors are most interested in.

With this information available to you, you know just what your visitors are looking for in your blog. The fact that most of your traffic comes from the search engines like Google is largely due to what keywords you are ranking for your blog. That adds the sweetness to the flavor as you now know just what topic to focus on for very targeted traffic coming continuously to your blog.

Here’s what my last 7 days’ most viewed pages revealed to me…

• It tells me that there are more visitors landing on my blog’s home page than any other pages.
• People are very keen on learning more about my passive income ideas I have shared so long ago on my home business blog.
• Visitors continue to be interested about my Xfactor’s Micro Niche Adsense Websites. They are also brought here by Google because the keyword phrase “Micro Niche Adsense Course” and “Xfactor Micro Niche Adsense” are both currently on Google’s #2 position.
• getting free backlinks remains many blogger’s ultimate challenge since the dawn of Internet Marketing.

  Final Thoughts

  Needless to say, with such information at your finger tips, you could also focus on these posts to improve on other aspects of your business. For me, it allowed me to tweak my adsense placements on them as well as improve on my affiliate links.

December month seems to be pretty quiet because of the Christmas and New Year holidays. I guess people didn’t have much time to be online and that’s understandable. Noticeably my adsense profit fell from $104 (last month) to $77 because of this and also the dreaded Google Sandbox. Oh well I just have to work harder and set up more Micro Niche Adsense Websites.

Total income earned during December ‘09: $474.85. Some observations and actions to take in Jan:

• 2 newly created Micro Niche Adsense Mini Websites making my total adsense sites to 8. This month I failed to cross over the $100 adsense earnings like in November mainly because of the holidays and that 3 of my new sites went into the Google Sandbox. But I’m still pleased my Xfactor’s adsense sites have contributed 60% of the $77.00 Adsense income. The rest came from this blog and my homepage. Looking at percentage and not the dollars does put things into perspective as they are now the main contributor for my adsense earnings. It does give me more incentive to create more niche sites.
• Again Angela Edward’s Backlink Program still delivers in terms of getting some passive income as backlink building is something you cannot stop even with 2 holidays. Most of the subscribers keep the subscription mainly because this program is helping them. It looks like I should focus a little more time to get more subscribers and grow this income a bit.

Yeah it’s about that time of the month again to write about my blog income and stats so here it is again. I’m not sure if I will continue doing this for long though. I may just stopped for a while and do it again when there are more things to update. Anyway, here it is:

Income

• Blogging Services – $128
• Micro Niche Adsense Course-XFactor – $246.40
• Google Adsense – $104.32
• Angela Edward’s Backlink Building Program – $78.75
• Micro Niche Finder – $43.59 (Clickbank)
• Host4Profit (Reseller) – $10

Total income earned during November ‘09: $609.06 The good income was possible mainly due to:

• more sales coming from XFactor’s Micro Niche Adsense Course (8 sales this month compared to 3 last month).
• 2 newly created Micro Niche Adsense Mini Websites making my total adsense sites to 6. They contributed earnings of $47.13 which made up 45% of November’s total adsense earnings of $104.32. It’s also the first time I crossed the $100 Adsense* threshold within one month so I’ll be getting my check early for this month instead of the usual bi-monthly frequency.
• Again Angela Edward’s Backlink Program still never fails as it continues to give me passive income from my subscribers. No promotion done for this month so I’m happy with the earnings.
