However have you ever wondered if the backlinking methods you have been using for years – have they really produced the desired results or were they achieved as fast as other Internet Marketers did? Are there smarter ways to get not just any backlinks but higher PR backlinks for lesser time than you are spending now?

Well to cut the story short, I did ask all these valid questions sometime in June last year when I was preparing for my one-day “Adsense Workshop” I had to give to a small group of young  aspiring Internet Marketers (see below image).

Now the reason how I got into that (in June) was because as the workshop was named by yours truly as “Secret Workshop”, I had to teach them new things that were never found in books, websites or other IM tutorials. So I bought almost all the weekly Warrior Special Offers that successful marketers were selling almost every other day in Warrior Forum. Mostly ebooks that revealed their “secrets” and I have to say many were just that. Really awesome!  I have to say I learned a lot especially those related to SEO – never mind that it was information overload for me.

One of the new things I picked up was a better way to get my Forum profile backlinks.

The old conventional way:

When you create (or pay someone to create) all the thousands of forum backlinks, these links are on pages of PR N/A mostly but on sites with high PR domains. Now there are many people (including Angela Edwards) who will swear that it doesn’t matter so long as the domain has high PR. I honestly believed so too years ago and in fact was promoting Angela Edwards Backlink Program until recently when I stopped after I found my new method. Let’s just say it’s not that it didn’t work but the results were slower and less effective in pushing SERPS up quickly – compared to the newer method which I’ll describe.

My Preferred Mew Method:

In this new method I still used Forums to get my backlinks but instead of placing my links on PR N/A pages (on high PR domains), I put my links on PR 3, PR 4, PR5 pages in high PR forums memberlist pages. You see many of these websites are long established and their members list pages have high PR as well.  Now can you see how much better your backlinks will be when they get indexed and pointing to your money sites?

However the truth is it takes a long time to search for these forum websites that have high PR forum member list. But I did it slowly over a few months doing a few sites a day and finally now have a long list that I used for my backlinking. I just make it a daily chore to create a few backlinks on these high PR pages. Anyway it just takes a couple of minutes to do one since I have a ready list of these member list sites. It’s ‘Register’ -> retrieve email – > activate link -> edit profile -> put your url on the homepage. And you’ve got yourself a PR 4 or PR 5 anytime you do this.

What Can You Do Next: I encourage you to spend some time looking for these Forum Websites and search for dofollow, high PR members list pages. But do take note that many of these sites do not show the homepage so you must ignore these as they will be useless for your link building purpose. I took a long time to get this list but it is really a worthwhile effort.

What Was My Mistake On Top Search Engine Ranking?

Well  I was chatting with a good friend of mine online one day, someone who was already earning himself more than 100 dollars a day. I asked him what advice he could give me for a site that is already on Google No. 1 Position? I asked him specifically if I should continue doing link building or should I just ease off, leave it and focus instead on other sites. The reply came quick and he said something like “Don’t do anything. If it ain’t broke why fix it? ” That was 2 years ago.

Well fast forward to today, 2 years later, if someone were to ask me that same question, I would have a totally different answer for him or her.  I would say getting a site to Google’s No. 1 position is not the hardest part. The hardest part is knowing what you must do to keep that site ranking No.1 in Google.  There is no guarantee that it will remain there forever as most of your competitors are like you too. They will in no time displace your site’s position if you choose to be naive. Also Google is always changing its ranking algorithm. Think of Panda and you will understand just what I mean. There’s no rest for the wicked it seems!

The tip I am going to share with you today is found in a post I wrote sometime ago when I first discovered the article distribution site called Ezarticlelink. My intention then was to create some backlinks for my Learn Affiliate Marketing blog since I had neglected this blog and had practically zero backlinks. So I set up an Article Directory on the blog. I’ve just bought an SEO Plugin called ‘Lazy SEO Rockstar‘ and I really like it so much that I’m going to do a quick review of it and share with you. I like it because it’s focused on onpage and offpage SEO which can relate to just about anyone who has a home business blog, someone who wants to make money online or simply starting out learning how to make money blogging.

What Is This Plugin All About

It’s the first time I see a wordpress plugin provide so much useful information and information that you can use in your daily routine SEO work. Perhaps it was developed with the intention of helping a lazy Internet Marketer and that’s why the name. But I meant lazy in a very good way. All of us are lazy to do all those boring and seemingly unproductive work and much prefer to use the valuable time instead doing something that we can see the rewards quickly. But we don’t always get what we want right? OK, the way this plugin was developed was meant to allow Internet Marketers or anyone who owns at least a site to spend just 10 minutes a day to automate some of our boring SEO tasks like onsite SEO, offsite SEO, backlinking and keyword research.

There are essentially 4 modules supported by this plugin. Module 1 helps you do ‘Long Tail Keyword Research‘, while Modules 2/3 take care of onsite SEO factors (Post LSI and Mass Tagging) and Module 4 focuses on offsite SEO and the much raved about by the many people in the Forum – it provides you EDU/GOV backlinks in seconds.

Module 1- Long Tail Keyword Research

The plugin lets you type in a ‘seed keyword’ and simply clicking a “Go’ button lists an extensive list of long tail keywords for you.  Well take a look at this screenshot and you will understand better with my example seed keyword as ‘make money blogging‘:

My Thoughts:

Long Tail keywords may not generate as much traffic as your main keywords but if you consistently write your contents using long tail keywords the eventual traffic amassed can be huge. Also it’s good for SEO too as such contents help the search engine know what topic you are writing. Personally I think it can be even more effective if you write long posts because you can write lots of different long tail keywords. I wrote about the benefits of writing long posts in this post called “2-Week Old Authority Site Now Gets Constant Traffic“. Having a list of such keywords in seconds makes your writing so much easier don’t you think? It even lets you export it for future use as well.

Module 2 – Post LSI

It has a menu that lists all your blog posts and selecting any can then tell you which keywords have helped your visitors find your particular post after they searched in Google.

My Thoughts

Having this information at your fingertips is great. You can use it for strategic planning and understanding visitor traffic and if your keyword selection is correct. It’s a lot faster since it is found in your blog rather than having to go to Google Webmaster Tools to hunt for it.

Module 3 – Mass Tagger

The mass tagger lets you tag keywords people used to find your blog posts (see module 2) automatically. You either manually tag your posts with these keywords or you can automate the process and let the plugin do it. If you look at this post below just after ‘Did You Miss Any Of These”, you will find the keywords shown as ‘tags’ – these are what keywords visitors have used to search in Google for this post. All done for me automatically.

Module 4 – Gov/EDU Backlinks

Like they say the best is left to the very last and this module is the most talkabout and most powerful. It lets you type your keyword and the plugin then searches for Gov/EDU blogs for you to do your commenting and get those precious backlinks easily. In seconds! It also lists the PR of the blog page so you can select only high page rank blogs to do your commenting.

My Thoughts

No matter what arguments you may have about the usefulness or the power of EDU/GOV links, I have always heard the experienced marketers swear by EDU and GOV links and why they viewed them with so much respect. The truth is I knew about this since June but was busy with other stuff and kept putting it off but glad I did too. You see originally Google had intended this Google +1 to be used only for their organic search engine results. Now it seems that this has been extended to webmasters like us to allow this same button to appear on our websites or blogs. How cool that is.

Why Use The Google + 1 Button

Well simply because it’s good for SEO. While this may not seem too obvious, but remember this button was first implemented by Google for search engine results. So it should have some influence on your search engine ranking. Although Google does not tell us how so, my guess is that for any 2 sites with similar ranking factors, the site that has Google plus one or received more “+1″ from readers will most probably outrank the other, all things remaining equal.

Another reason why I said Google uses its Google +1 as another one of its hundreds of ranking factors is that Google made improvements when they found out that people were abusing the system by over zealously clicking their buttons for their own gains. Now why would Google go to so much trouble?  Well the Google +1 button process is working pretty much  smoothly now that Google has made some changes that ensured any additional clicks will reduce the total +1 values for that post. No more monkey business.

How You Can Add Google +1 Button For Your Sites:

I chose this easy approach simply because I hate messing around with codes, no matter how easy it may appear to be. I should know.  I once hacked my own blog many years ago doing what some claimed to be a simple coding change. Anyway I always try to do things the easy way and it has always been so for all my work from home challenges from day 1.

Another reason why I prefer to use this plugin than manually doing it is that it was developed to help both your blog and the search engines. The reason being that the plugin has an option to load the javascript in the footer of the wordpress template, which you should use. This is important because then your blog loads up first before loading the button code. Clever indeed!

A few years ago there was so much discussion on this love-hate topic among bloggers, Internet Marketers and even from the horses mouth – Google. There was even speculation that Google might even totally stop pageranking all sites to prevent people’s obsession with this little green bar from getting worse. It didn’t happen and personally I don’t think it ever will.

Google came out very strongly then and reminded all concerned parties that page rank, was just one of many factors that Google used to determine search engine ranking. Google now called it their 200 signals that their search engine ranking algorithms rely on. I believe this completely as I can see it for myself too. I’ve seen so many of my websites with Google PR0 beating the likes of many other websites with higher page rank simply because of other factors like exact domain keyword. I believed that page rank influences about 20 percent of your search engine ranking.

What Do I Think of Page Rank?

I definitely prefer to see page rank remain because it is a good measurement and acknowledgement by Google of how well perceived my sites are. I also rely on the PR of sites to access a site quickly for all my daily work like backlink building, or when trying to search for credible information.

I also rely on sites PR for my keyword research work.

Many of us probably used Blogger or any web 2.0 websites for only one purpose – link building to boost the search engine rankings of any of our money making websites or make money blogging blogs. Well hopefully this post gives you some food for thought and perhaps you may have a different perspective or objective when you create your next blog in Blogger.

How did I start this niche in Blogger?

All my niche sites’ domains are self-hosted and I’ve never ever used Blogger or any free sites other than for link building purposes, so ranking it to no. 1 or Google’s’ page one is never in my mind. This is my very first niche site created in Blogger. One of my niche sites was ranked no. 5 in Google and I wanted to push it up to no. 1 so I thought having a similar niche site created in Blogger may help.

All my niche sites are using exact name domains as my main keyword phrase, so I was lucky to have also found the exact name in Blogger as well. Here’s all the information you will find useful:

Niche Site in Blogger (what I did in chronological sequence)

1.  Sep 8 - created niche site in Blogger with one post for the homepage. No links on the page but put adsense (it’s a strategy I learned and it worked)

2. Sep 9 – Google has indexed my blog (very much because of #1 strategy)

3. Sep 20 – published second post on the blog

4. Sep 29 – published third post on the blog

5. Sep 30 – I noted that the Sep 29 post has been indexed by Google. Now I start to update my 3 posts with 2 links on each post point to my niche site which has the same domain name as this blog name.

6. Nov 20 – Found site on Google’s page 2, #20 . Published 4th post and decided to put some life into the blog. Added 2 more adsense ads (1 block 336X280 and link unit468X15) and included one image with keyword in alt-text at the end of each post. Change header and ensure matching links color with adsense. That’s it.

7. Nov 21 (6.30 a.m) – Wanted to check if latest post was indexed but found much more than that. Found site on Google’s page 1, #1. Yeah and it outranked my other owned niche site now currently at #3, can you believe that? Almost side by site.  It looks a little strange – yes interestingly strange but absolutely wonderful. haha!

My Thoughts

1. Well whether the site will continue to remain at the no. 1 position, only time will tell (still no. 1 after 9 hrs so far at time of writing this post UPDATE: DEC 9 STILL @NO.1 IN GOOGLE) but that’s not too important. I still maintain that I will use Blogger more for link building and if any of these sites get good ranking in Google, it’s just a bonus.

2. Looks like I’ve completely missed out on using Blogger to my advantage for all my 21 niche sites. I ought to create a few more blogs in Blogger and hopefully I can find exact names as well. Anyway it’s going to be useful for any link wheel I may intend to selectively do for a few of my niche sites in the near future.

3. Gaining Google’s trust is so important when you start to build a new site. So in this niche site, my strategy not to show any links on my homepage before getting Google indexed worked because the big G dislikes people who creates blogger blogs solely for link building. In fact a few years ago I’ve had one or 2 general blogger blogs deleted because I failed to realize this importance or give due respect to G. With Google you can’t just be goody two shoes, you have to be genuinely good period.

4. The importance of using exact name domain is proven yet again here and  all my 21 niche sites followed this selection criteria during the keyword research and domain selection.

5. You don’t need many backlinks to get to Google’s no. 1 position as there are many other factors that are very important too as this case shows. I just checked Yahoo Site Explorer and it shows this blogger blog has only 7 backlinks mostly from my squidoo lenses.

When you are starting a new website, the very first task ahead of you is getting this website or your blog indexed in Google, Yahoo and other search engines. You are probably very excited about your new website and you know that the faster you achieved a good SEO ranking, the sooner you will start getting free organic traffic. You will know that all other work that you have planned for this new website like backlink building must wait until your website gets indexed by Google.

Well I thought since niche marketing is my first love and I’ve now created 12 niche sites and gunning for my 13th over the next 2 days, I’m going to share with you how I managed quite easily to get Google indexing each of my new sites very quickly. To be precise, I take less than 24 hours!

Here is what I do once I have purchased my domain at Godaddy and have my new site uploaded after the homepage has been created using XSitePro2:

1. Social Bookmarking

I bookmark my website in Digg and this follows with Onlywire and then login to the free IMAutomator to use this tool to auto submit my site to 47 social bookmarking/social news sites, all on auto pilot. The best feature I like about this tool is that it has drip feeding feature and lets you make your submission as natural as can be. It lets you decide and select the time duration you want your backlinks to spread over between 1 day to 45 days. The best part – it’s free!

2. Backlink Building

I always plan creating my new niche sites in the first week of the month, because I usually received my link package (30 high PR links) from Angela Edward’s Backlink Building Program. I just used 2 or 3 high PR link profiles to add my new website for the time being and will put more once Google has indexed my website.

3. Submit to RSS Sites

Since buying Big Mike’s RSSBot (link given is not affiliate link) I just let this tool submit my new site to 30 RSS sites . My niche sites are all html sites so I used html-RSS to create each one of them from html to RSS. If you don’t have this tool just submit your new website to a few RSS sites.

4. Ping My New Website

Finally I ping my new website homepage as well as the profile pages of No.2. using Pingler or PingMyBlog

My Google Adsense earnings in March grew by more than 43% over last month. But do you think it is because of the recently launched Google-Certified Ad Networks?

Did you see any spectacular increase in your Google Adsense income this month? No I am not referring to any new adsense strategies you’d learned recently but something you have very little control of.  I’m actually referring to a recent Google announcement advising Adsense Publishers it has allowed many new advertisers from approved third-party networks to compete with Adwords advertisers to display ads on Google Content Network.

What does this new change mean for Google Adsense Publishers (mostly bloggers like you and me)?

1. When new advertisers from these third-party networks compete with existing AdWords advertisers for the right to display their ads on publisher sites this will lead to more ads appearing on our websites or blog. If you have very relevant traffic coming to your websites it just means people are now presented with more information. For publishers this translates to more adsense clicks and make more money from adsense.

2. You will have control over which of the 90 Google certified ad networks you want to appear on your web pages with more to be added by Google over the next few months. You can see them by simply going to Google Adsense Setup>Ad Review Center page. By default these new ad networks are automatically activated in your account until you decided to block them. If you feel more comfortable to prefer to only show Adwords Advertisers’ ads, just look for ‘Allow and Block Google Certified Ad Networks’ section to block them from showing.

Why I am not overly excited about this change?

1. Well firstly, the announcement from Google Adsense I received 10 days ago does not say much. Who knows perhaps there is more to it than meets the eye.

2. Perhaps the move by Google to partner networks is it’s latest strategy to expand their adsense revenue.  But there is interesting speculation that adsense enthusiasts view this move as Google taking swift action against too much competition from other ad networks eating a little too much of their Google pie. What do you think?

3. These changes apply solely to image ads and do not include text ads although this was never clearly communicated to publishers, which supports my no. 1 point. Advertisers paying CPM (cost per thousand impressions) are not known to pay that well at least for me although I’ve read of other marketers earning more in CPMs than CPCs.

4. Almost all of my adsense ads placements are text ads so my Google Adsense 43 percent increased revenue for this month most certainly was not as a result of this change. I’ll probably share some of my tips I used in another post.

I apologize if you are seeing this social bookmarking post the second time, although I’ve had it rewritten to avoid duplication. One of my plugins had a problem causing the original post not to display on the blog homepage.

Most of us know the advantages social bookmarking has on our online business opportunities and that apart from the fact that submission of our many web pages to these sites can only be good for the search engines’ indexing process, it helps get you very targeted traffic too. That seems to be the essence of why we do this tedious and time consuming work.

Well it does help to know that search engine programs simply love to crawl these pages so I’m guessing this hard work of us bloggers is going to remain with us for some time. Perhaps if we follow a good strategy supporting the social bookmarking process, we may even feel more excited about doing this hard work. Well there is one good strategy that a good number of people are religiously following and seeing good results.

I must admit that I’ve not spent a great deal of my time doing social bookmarking. That’s no excuse for something this important but I guess one of the reasons is that whenever I bookmark my favorite web pages, I always made it a point to say something nice. But from the start I found it a little strange to do the same for my own web pages.

Recently while trying to do some research on social bookmarking I discovered a very good, easy and ingenious strategy being practiced by some clever marketers. It’s called Authority Tagging and I’m pretty sure you’ll love it as much as I do since it’s going to bring you those backlinks and targeted traffic to your website. Are you excited?

What exactly is ‘Authority Tagging’

Well Authority Tagging uses Delicious as an authority account and relies on the same process that you are familiar with in bookmarking your pages and posts to your favorite social bookmarking sites. However this strategy works well only when you painstakingly ensure the following:

1. Create a 3-tier pages systematic framework with a good mix of your own web pages, pages that other websites link to you and thirdly relevant web pages you like enough to want to tag to, although you don’t necessarily have to link to.

2. After completing this 3-tier page structure in your Delicious authority account, the next thing you should do is import all these pages into other bookmarking sites that you have signed up (e.g. a1-webmarks, backflip, mister-wong, Bibsonomy, etc)

3. Lastly submit the RSS feeds url of all your bookmarking accounts to your favorite feed directories and you should also ping them too.

Why Delicious

Some time ago while I was working on getting high PR backlinks,for my websites, I was focusing on Delicious to see if I can benefit and tap from it’s high PR8 status. Using all my squidoo lenses I had created I then imported all my Delicious pages onto my lenses since Squidoo has an import feature. While I did receive the backlinks, I learned later that Delicious was nofollow (and still is), so all these backlinks were quite useless as they were just that – nofollow links. I guess my excitement wore off then and that stopped any work that associated with Delicious. But why did I have a change of heart even though Delicious is still very much nofollow?

Well I made a mistake of not finding out more about Delicious. If I did, I would have found out that while most social bookmarking websites are nofollow, many of their feeds are dofollow. Yes including that of Delicious. It seems an irony that I’m now following a strategy that uses Delicious account and importing from it. Yes sometimes I think a blogger’s work comes one full circle and you learn to do the right things sooner or later. Using RSS feeds to work to your advantage for backlinks and traffic is also not a new strategy as everyone has been doing that.

My Final Thoughts

This strategy allows you to create as many authority accounts in Delicious as you need for your niches as it is a matter of rinse and repeat the process for each one of them. This 3-tier pages structure seems a powerful organization of relevant pages favored my many others too and you will get many backlinks and receive very targeted traffic coming to your website.
