However have you ever wondered if the backlinking methods you have been using for years – have they really produced the desired results or were they achieved as fast as other Internet Marketers did? Are there smarter ways to get not just any backlinks but higher PR backlinks for lesser time than you are spending now?

Well to cut the story short, I did ask all these valid questions sometime in June last year when I was preparing for my one-day “Adsense Workshop” I had to give to a small group of young  aspiring Internet Marketers (see below image).

Now the reason how I got into that (in June) was because as the workshop was named by yours truly as “Secret Workshop”, I had to teach them new things that were never found in books, websites or other IM tutorials. So I bought almost all the weekly Warrior Special Offers that successful marketers were selling almost every other day in Warrior Forum. Mostly ebooks that revealed their “secrets” and I have to say many were just that. Really awesome!  I have to say I learned a lot especially those related to SEO – never mind that it was information overload for me.

One of the new things I picked up was a better way to get my Forum profile backlinks.

The old conventional way:

When you create (or pay someone to create) all the thousands of forum backlinks, these links are on pages of PR N/A mostly but on sites with high PR domains. Now there are many people (including Angela Edwards) who will swear that it doesn’t matter so long as the domain has high PR. I honestly believed so too years ago and in fact was promoting Angela Edwards Backlink Program until recently when I stopped after I found my new method. Let’s just say it’s not that it didn’t work but the results were slower and less effective in pushing SERPS up quickly – compared to the newer method which I’ll describe.

My Preferred Mew Method:

In this new method I still used Forums to get my backlinks but instead of placing my links on PR N/A pages (on high PR domains), I put my links on PR 3, PR 4, PR5 pages in high PR forums memberlist pages. You see many of these websites are long established and their members list pages have high PR as well.  Now can you see how much better your backlinks will be when they get indexed and pointing to your money sites?

However the truth is it takes a long time to search for these forum websites that have high PR forum member list. But I did it slowly over a few months doing a few sites a day and finally now have a long list that I used for my backlinking. I just make it a daily chore to create a few backlinks on these high PR pages. Anyway it just takes a couple of minutes to do one since I have a ready list of these member list sites. It’s ‘Register’ -> retrieve email – > activate link -> edit profile -> put your url on the homepage. And you’ve got yourself a PR 4 or PR 5 anytime you do this.

Now if you are still unclear how this all works out, then take a look at the image shown below:

What Can You Do Next: I encourage you to spend some time looking for these Forum Websites and search for dofollow, high PR members list pages. But do take note that many of these sites do not show the homepage so you must ignore these as they will be useless for your link building purpose. I took a long time to get this list but it is really a worthwhile effort.

Well I have good reasons because I am seeing so many articles written about Google Panda Updates that you really cannot ignore the importance. Nor the huge impact it is causing all of us now and our online business opportunities and in the near future. Yes and even online marketers are using Google Panda to market whatever new products they are launching.  Like this: Panda Is Changing 35% Of Google SERP’s – But The Backlink Bonanza Will Kill Anything You Throw At It.  Or this : “Google Panda On Steroid System” with promises that  “Google Panda will be running scared the moment you unleashed this cutting edge SEO Outsourcing System…” Even “Google Proof” your site seems to be a common way of talking among many Internet Marketers too.

The following are some articles I stumbled upon last week which discuss the Google Panda Algorithm changes and some intelligent guessing as to what you can expect post Panda. My Thoughts: I think most of us have been over focusing on exact keywords anchor text, exact domain match probably a little too much. We tend to overdo things whenever we can see that we have achieved huge success from doing so. Yes even when we hear many SEO guys teaching about diversity,  anchor text variations, LSI keywords. Well perhaps it’s about time we do some soul searching and do more of partial anchor text when we do our link building from now. What do you think?

The Possibility:  Google’s Preparing For Social Networking In A BIG Way

My Thoughts: This is now an open secret as Google has talked about it many times before so expect to see Google giving Social Networking much much more importance. For ranking.  If you didn’t know, they made a song and dance when Google launched Google Plus 1 so go figure out.  Recently a Google spokesperson talked about Google’s use of social signals as a ranking factor during an interview with Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land.

What is Google Panda Update

Well Google makes more than 300 algorithm changes every year and I guess it is their way of ensuring that their Google Search Engine remains  clean, respected but more importantly viewed by searchers as the best search engine in the world. Yup and while at it, continues to dominate about 65 percent market share of all search engines.

The Google Panda name happens to be coined by those Google Engineers who were involved in the original update. Well perhaps not so original as who knows it may have come hitherto from a few smaller updates in other years. What Google chooses to call their algorithm change is not important. What is more important is to try to understand just what these changes are (and they don’t seem to stop as there are many updates from 2.3 to now 2.5) and why Google had to make them.  It also reinforces my own philosophy – always  give to Google what Google wants and you’ll be alright.

1. Article Directories

Article directories are the worst hit by this Google Panda update. In fact I saw this coming for a long time because too many people in the past were trying to get tons of free backlinks from these free article directories. And who could blame them? It was that easy because they were submitting duplicate articles and although they knew these duplicate articles were not getting ranked, they nevertheless enjoyed the free backlinks. Also Google probably did not appreciate the average article directory which did not maintain a high standard of publication.

How It Affected me? None. Because I knew about link diversity that Google uses to rank websites so I stopped many of these submissions if I knew I already had gotten too many backlinks from a particular article directory like Ezinearticle dot com to one domain. Refer to my post called “Diversify Your Backlinks For Top Search Ranking“.

2. One Page Websites

Gone are the days when you can simply whip up a 1-page website, and start monetizing it with adsense, affiliate marketing offers and make lots of money.  Now I really do not know how Google targets such websites because I know for a fact that some of these 1-page sites like lead capture pages or landing pages fall into this category and yet they remained untouched.

How It Affected me?: None, because all my sites have at least 10 pages of unique content, excluding the default pages of course like about, privacy, contact etc. Perhaps one of the clearest indication that Google means business comes from a good friend of mine, Yan who has this to say:

“…….. for all the newbies who are just starting out – who dream of making money on the internet, my honest advise is this, “don’t build small websites”. The days of “thin affiliate sites” and “push-button-get-rich-quick” methods are over. Anyone saying otherwise isn’t telling the truth” – Yan Susanto

There are just too many articles written about all the Google Panda updates and you can simply Google it and read to understand more about it. But I  like to summarize a few salient points that I felt worth repeating:

1.  Google targeted websites with poor quality or spammy content and sprinkled with lots of ads. This update affected a whopping 12% of searches. Keep motivating yourself

Motivation is one of the biggest factors when it comes to having a good work day and accomplishing all the daily tasks. And since you work at home, that means, you are the one who has to keep you motivated and going. A simple way to keep yourself motivated is to keep things that are motivating to you, close by, on your desk perhaps. Write down your biggest goal and keep it in your desk where you can look at it every time you feel down. Keep a copy of that book that inspired you to start this business. Anything that you can look at and get motivation from.

Treat it as a real business

Just because you are your own boss and work from home doesn’t mean your work is not important. Your work at home business still is a business and like any other business, it needs to be dealt with as a business and not a hobby.

Set working hours

Working at the comfort of your own home has its benefits and of course its pitfalls. Using those benefits to your advantage and avoiding those pitfalls will be an important part of where or not you succeed in working from home.

Building and maintaining a successful and profitable home business requires a lot of hard work, commitment and a willingness to never give up, but most importantly, it requires a laser like focus. By implementing these tips you can ensure your home business is on the right track to becoming and staying a profitable and successful business you can rely on.

What Was My Mistake On Top Search Engine Ranking?

Well  I was chatting with a good friend of mine online one day, someone who was already earning himself more than 100 dollars a day. I asked him what advice he could give me for a site that is already on Google No. 1 Position? I asked him specifically if I should continue doing link building or should I just ease off, leave it and focus instead on other sites. The reply came quick and he said something like “Don’t do anything. If it ain’t broke why fix it? ” That was 2 years ago.

Well fast forward to today, 2 years later, if someone were to ask me that same question, I would have a totally different answer for him or her.  I would say getting a site to Google’s No. 1 position is not the hardest part. The hardest part is knowing what you must do to keep that site ranking No.1 in Google.  There is no guarantee that it will remain there forever as most of your competitors are like you too. They will in no time displace your site’s position if you choose to be naive. Also Google is always changing its ranking algorithm. Think of Panda and you will understand just what I mean. There’s no rest for the wicked it seems!

The tip I am going to share with you today is found in a post I wrote sometime ago when I first discovered the article distribution site called Ezarticlelink. I’ve just bought an SEO Plugin called ‘Lazy SEO Rockstar‘ and I really like it so much that I’m going to do a quick review of it and share with you. I like it because it’s focused on onpage and offpage SEO which can relate to just about anyone who has a home business blog, someone who wants to make money online or simply starting out learning how to make money blogging.

What Is This Plugin All About

It’s the first time I see a wordpress plugin provide so much useful information and information that you can use in your daily routine SEO work. Perhaps it was developed with the intention of helping a lazy Internet Marketer and that’s why the name. But I meant lazy in a very good way. All of us are lazy to do all those boring and seemingly unproductive work and much prefer to use the valuable time instead doing something that we can see the rewards quickly. But we don’t always get what we want right? OK, the way this plugin was developed was meant to allow Internet Marketers or anyone who owns at least a site to spend just 10 minutes a day to automate some of our boring SEO tasks like onsite SEO, offsite SEO, backlinking and keyword research.

There are essentially 4 modules supported by this plugin. Module 1 helps you do ‘Long Tail Keyword Research‘, while Modules 2/3 take care of onsite SEO factors (Post LSI and Mass Tagging) and Module 4 focuses on offsite SEO and the much raved about by the many people in the Forum – it provides you EDU/GOV backlinks in seconds.

Module 1- Long Tail Keyword Research

The plugin lets you type in a ‘seed keyword’ and simply clicking a “Go’ button lists an extensive list of long tail keywords for you.  Well take a look at this screenshot and you will understand better with my example seed keyword as ‘make money blogging‘:

My Thoughts:

Long Tail keywords may not generate as much traffic as your main keywords but if you consistently write your contents using long tail keywords the eventual traffic amassed can be huge. Also it’s good for SEO too as such contents help the search engine know what topic you are writing. Personally I think it can be even more effective if you write long posts because you can write lots of different long tail keywords. I wrote about the benefits of writing long posts in this post called “2-Week Old Authority Site Now Gets Constant Traffic“. Having a list of such keywords in seconds makes your writing so much easier don’t you think? It even lets you export it for future use as well.

Module 2 – Post LSI

It has a menu that lists all your blog posts and selecting any can then tell you which keywords have helped your visitors find your particular post after they searched in Google.

My Thoughts

Having this information at your fingertips is great. You can use it for strategic planning and understanding visitor traffic and if your keyword selection is correct. It’s a lot faster since it is found in your blog rather than having to go to Google Webmaster Tools to hunt for it.

Module 3 – Mass Tagger

The mass tagger lets you tag keywords people used to find your blog posts (see module 2) automatically. You either manually tag your posts with these keywords or you can automate the process and let the plugin do it. If you look at this post below just after ‘Did You Miss Any Of These”, you will find the keywords shown as ‘tags’ – these are what keywords visitors have used to search in Google for this post. All done for me automatically.

Module 4 – Gov/EDU Backlinks

Like they say the best is left to the very last and this module is the most talkabout and most powerful. It lets you type your keyword and the plugin then searches for Gov/EDU blogs for you to do your commenting and get those precious backlinks easily. In seconds! It also lists the PR of the blog page so you can select only high page rank blogs to do your commenting.

My Thoughts

No matter what arguments you may have about the usefulness or the power of EDU/GOV links, I have always heard the experienced marketers swear by EDU and GOV links and why they viewed them with so much respect.
