Starting a new internet business opportunity is an exciting prospect. We have high hopes for success and we know that there are millions of people on the internet and if we can just get a tiny percentage of those people to visit our new web site, we will be home free. Sounds like a plan, right? The internet can be a confusing place to start a business, take it from someone who has over 30 years of on-land experience; the transition to the internet has its own set of new and unique problems to overcome before the money starts rolling in.

The first and most important tip I want to offer you is this one: the internet highway is not paved with gold, it is paved with obstacles that, if you are not aware of them, will trip you up on your way to what you may think is an easy way to make money. There is no easy, simple way to make money anywhere, least of all on the internet. The only people that I know of who are making easy money on the internet are the ones who are peddling the scams that say there is easy money to be made on the internet!

My experience has shown me that the reality of making money on the internet is this; it’s harder to make money on the internet for a similar land line business for the simple fact that there is a middle man between you, the business owner, and your potential customers, all of those millions of people zooming around the internet. Out in the real world, all you need to do to open up a business is to open a store and, if you were on a busy street, you would have customers in your store in the first 5 minutes. Not so for your internet business opportunity.

You set up your web site, you turn on the switch, you are live and open and then what? Where are the millions of people zooming around the internet, where are your customers? This is where that middleman comes in that I mentioned at the beginning. That middleman holds the key to your success and your traffic. The middle man that I am talking about is the gate keepers to the traffic on the internet, the search engines. Like you, I was obviously aware of what the search engines did, and was fairly familiar with how they did it, what I was not familiar with was how that all fit into me opening up my first internet home business.

A mistake that I made was not sitting down with someone who understood this relationship with a new internet business and how I needed to get set up properly to make sure that I would get a least a tiny fraction of all of that internet traffic. It does not matter how many millions of people are on the internet, if they do not know you exist, and visit your web site, you might as well be in the middle of the desert for all the good they are going to do you.

You need to zero in on any internet business opportunity you may be considering and ask yourself this one vitally important question;

“Who is going to know I am in business and how am I going to get them to visit my web site?“

You could end up with the best business on the internet, you could have the most amazing web site, none of that will matter unless you can solve the issue all internet businesses have, getting that all elusive traffic to your web site. I wish someone had written an article like this when I first started out. I wish they then would have stapled it my forehead and made me read it every day for a month BEFORE I did anything about starting my first web site. If they had, I would have done things 100% differently. Take my advice; address the traffic generating steps you need to take before you think about starting any internet business opportunity.

The best place to look for getting good solid free advice on this topic is the blogs and forums on the internet. There are hundreds of them out there, all of the advice is up there to read for free. The information in almost all of the cases comes from people who have gone through this situation and have advice on how to overcome this problem.

My advice on this topic is simple and direct; the way to get real organic traffic to your web site is to make sure you have the freshest, most original content on your market and the search engines and the traffic will find you, eventually! Have a great day.

I am a part time full time Internet Home Business owner

I always wondered what it would be like to write a post like this having seen quite a few of my blogger friends do it, albeit with different circumstances.  Yes June 3, 2010 became an important date to remember for me, much like if it’s your birthday, wedding day, your children’s birth dates etc. It was the day after my last day at the bank I worked for the last 3 1/2 years. A new chapter begins…

Are you ready to quit your day job and work from home?

Well if you have an internet home business started some years ago you should seriously consider it. The primary reason for wanting to start an online business must be working towards financial freedom one day.  It should be your no. 1 goal in your life and hopefully you have already taken concrete actions beginning with your soon to be successful online business. However it isn’t that just because you started your own home business, it’s going to make you rich and famous and let you retire as a millionaire. That would be wishful thinking.  On the contrary, statistics have shown that 95% of people who started to make money from the internet failed miserably. Does the truth hurt or spur you on?

In my Internet Marketing journey, I’ve always cautioned people not to make rash decisions when it comes to wanting to quit their jobs after having found an online business opportunity that they think can replace their lousy day job.  The truth is that it takes time to establish your business and a better option would be to do it part time first. Why? Because the seeds of failure usually bloom early enough during the early stage of your business.  Because most people who give up a well paying day job for his own work at home job without careful consideration often regretted it. In short, not everyone succeeds.

Now that you have quit your job and working from home….

The most obvious difference between then and now is that previously you were always complaining about not having enough time for your online business to  now having too much time. Well whether you have too much time remains to be seen but it all depends on how disciplined you are at your work from home job.

Treat your work at home business like a job and just tell yourself your office is located in your home.  Your challenge has always been about learning how to make money blogging, earning from your affiliate programs, how to earn passive income or create more micro adsense sites etc etc. It is not a challenge to now focus on your work and beat all the distractions surrounding you at home. I know, at times it does feel like walking your dog, doing the laundry and raking your yard seems to take your mind off things. It may even help with that writer’s block every now and then

It may be a good time to psych yourself up saying to yourself, now that you have the luxury of time, that you now have a greater chance of success in your home business. You certainly don’t want to prove right the 95 percent failure rate for those starting an online business.  Recently I was following the success of Liz Tomey and she says that the key to online success is to “find a proven profitable business model and stick to only it”.  So this means if you now spend more time on a strategy or business model that you know works for you, well you may see more than fireworks on July 4.

Recently while revisiting some of my older posts in my home business blog to do some tests on my Google Adsense placements, I came across my post titled: “If I Could Start My Blog All Over….” where I asked 4 of my blogging friends to give their thoughts on how different their blogs might be if they were starting all over again.

Well all of them said they would still have their blogs but with big differences in how they were to be built and promoted impacting domains, backlinks, blog marketing, blog theme among others. These are valid suggestions or improvements on their blogs which now begs the question : “How important do you value your blog?”.  Would you have the courage or audacity to give up your blog now? Or would you have not started with a blog at all if you had to start your Internet Home Business all over again?

Well my good friend Tom Lindstrom from The Home Business Archive says “Marketing without a website can be done by building a list of subscribers and broadcasting messages to that list.” All that is needed, he says, is a monthly investment for a reliable autoresponder which costs about $20. That is relatively low maintenance although this expense could be about twice you would have paid hostgator every month to maintain your hosting account.  But not having to update your blog frequently should make up more than the 10 bucks you got to dish out.

Going without a blog or a website is a serious decision to make and presumably you know what you’re doing if you’re seriously contemplating just that. Starting an autoresponder is not the only serious work you have to immerse yourself with. In Tom’s post, he advocates having a “system” to follow before you can start to run your home business. His system focuses on :

• establishing yourself as an expert on whatever affiliate products you intend to market. My thoughts on this: Well some statistics I’ve come across put the affiliate marketing industry failure rate as 95% so obviously you have to strive to be in the 5% category of successful affiliate marketers.
• using article marketing and promote extensively your affiliate products using both your article “resource box” and your autoresponder. Well that is something new for the average blogger and it’s for better usage than most of us could ever imagined.

My Final Thoughts

Personally, I would prefer having a blog and website than without one. The look and feel of a blog has changed over the years and somehow I get the feeling that people are more comfortable “talking” to someone on his blog than through his autoresponder. Nevertheless I know that the autoresponder plays a significant role in most successful marketers’ rise to fame and fortune.

A blog plays a big part in introducing who you are as an Internet Marketer through this communication channel. I have also yet to read many success stories of marketers who became exceedingly successful without a website or a blog. But of course it could be this ignorant me or the lazy part of me preferring not the road less traveled.

I guess by now you would have heard so much excitement about how many internet marketers are using high PR profile pages to attain high search engine rankings. If you have not, then check out a previous post of mine titled “Taking Backlink Building To a Higher Level” to get you up to speed.

What are High PR Profile pages

Essentially these are high authority websites with a page rank of PR6-Pr9 and allow anyone free membership that comes with the usual profile page set up. The profile page is where you add a few do-follow backlinks pointing to your website. There are perhaps thousands of these websites but Angela, and probably many other copy-cats search for good ones to offer to their affiliates who joined their programs. I don’t know about others but Angela makes hers so affordable at $5 a month membership it seems a no-brainer to join, and saving me the trouble to look for these links.

You know learning the techniques of getting high backlinks has been a hot topic for everyone but Angela Edward pioneered this simple concept herself before sharing with others in her now famous WSO (Warrior Special Offer) called ‘Angela Edward’s Backlink Building Program. That program is so well known and successful new marketers who joined it give it due respect and don’t question if it works; but rather how they can use the program to leverage on their other link building activities. Yeah it’s quite phenomenal.

While there is no doubt of the value of these high PR backlinks getting you the boost in your search engine ranking, you have to acknowledge that it does take some time for Google to index the profile pages containing your backlinks. By virtue of these sites having such great authority and page rank, Angela’s link packets have thousands of web pages on them. I figure Google spider with all its sophistication does take some time to go through these pages and noticing your backlinks. People are now getting anxious to find out more ingenious ways on how to get them indexed quickly.

I have been focusing a bit more attention in getting my Angela’s backlink program profile pages indexed by Google as well. I am using Slingshot method by Mark Dickenson to do this and the following free methods as well:

Pinging your profile page – Individual pages

I think most people are familiar with pinging their blog or static website each time they have added new content on it. It seems to be a standard practice and even your wordpress blog now comes with an auto pinging feature whenever you have published a new post.

Do you know that you can also ping your profile page or RSS to expedite Google indexing this page and thereafter your backlinks too?  Here are just 2 sites that I use to do this – pingler and pingmyblog. If you are not using wordpress blog and using a static html website instead, no worries, just simply use this html-RSS site to create your static RSS in 2 minutes.

Pinging your profile pages – Group links

This is like the mother of all feeds and allows you to create a page full of your profile or feeds that you can then send to the usual directories. To make feed / RSS you can use IceRocket Free RSS Builder. Simply sign up to create your RSS Channel.  When you’ve got this channel then click “Add Entry” and fill in the required information in “Entry Title”, “Entry Link” and “Entry Summary”. Do this for all your (Angela’s) profile pages or any other pages that you like. Finally click XML to see your new feed/RSS that you have created. Here is an example of my profile page feed I specially created for this post. Then once you’ve got your RSS feed just submit it to your favorite RSS directories.

My Final Thoughts

There is really no fix time when Google will count your backlink and even if it did may never show it to you. Such is the sheer dominance Google has over us insignificant bloggers Sometimes your links show up on your backlink checker tool within a week especially forum links but these backlink check tools don’t often show you everything because of one good reason – they rely on the little data fed from all the search engines including Google. So if you are using these tools, do take them with a grain of salt.

The more important thing is to try to get your profile pages indexed by Google. Then let nature takes its course and you’ll get your backlinks sooner or later even if you don’t see them in your backlink checker.

My Google Adsense earnings for Nov’09 posted $104.32 and while it’s not earth shaking news, it does give me some satisfaction and I probably should enjoy the moment a little. Although it is not my biggest earner for some months, it’s been my most consistent revenue generating advertising program.

Well after 6 long months, I finally made $100 in Adsense earnings in a single month, a first for me since I started using the ad network around end May 2009. I know for many marketers that’s nothing much to shout about and the real achievements are really from those people who have gone to make $100 per day in adsense. Yeah I see quite a number of such feats in many online forums. Well for what it’s worth I like to reflect upon this small milestone and share with you what I’ve learned:

1. Will having more websites help?

I started with one domain (1 homepage, 1 blog) and now I have 7 domains and 9 websites. I have seen many people succeed in Google Adsense with just one authority website and with tons of content pages. As I don’t have an authority website and since this blog has only a humble 190 posts, I decided Micro Adsense Mini Sites was my best option.

2. Does more traffic equal more adsense income?

I used to believe you need lots of traffic and perhaps that’s why I started my adsense journey so late. While there is some truth in it, I like to think it applies more to the conventional type of websites. The small niche sites received more targeted traffic and therefore more clicks given that a page is focused entirely on one keyword phrase. I’ve seen many of my niche sites getting few impressions but as much as 50% CTR.

3. Blending your ads

I have found blending the ads into my blog help to give better results. I did lots of testing but found the borderless ad block size 336×280, blue color links, grey-out text help increase Google AdSense click-through rate.

4. Follow a Proven Adsense Master Course

I have to say it not because this is an affiliate link but following XFactor’s Micro Niche Adsense Course was the turning point of my Adsense milestone. It has saved me loads of time testing and tweaking but most of all I didn’t know a thing about creating Micro Niche Adsense sites to begin with.

5. Choosing the right niche makes all the difference

To be honest before learning from Xfactor’s Adsense Course and before I came to know about what Micro Niche Finder can do, I thought I would have difficulty selecting the right niche to target. Well today I don’t have such fears and I much enjoy finding a new niche each time I’m ready to add on to my growing micro niche adsense sites.

6. Why do you need 100′s of Micro Niche Websites

Well even though I only have 9 earning websites I know it’s a lot more profitable than 2 when I just got started. You will also have to accept the fact that not all your websites are all going to do well and remain on Google’s page 1. So far I’ve had 1 niche site sandboxed and just returned back to normalcy.

Perhaps what I learned from someone who makes more than $100 a day tells a lot why the more sites the better. He says only about 10% of his sites make the real dough but he is still growing adsense empire every week. He is in a comfortable position to wait for many to come out of sandbox as that seems to be a temporary phase most new sites go through. It has got to be about using the right strategy, continue backlinking and having self-belief that it will work.

7. The good old ‘rinse and repeat’ the process

If you do find a winning formula or business strategy, you ought to duplicate your success over and over again. It is the same here too. If I didn’t think it worth adding on more adsense sites, I would have stopped wasting my time. Well I’m now on no. 6 and thinking of doing no. 7 soon so that says a lot.

The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) a US federal government independent agency has recently made changes to the policies governing the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising. This change is going to be effective Dec 1, 2009, so are you all geared up for this change and decided what are some of the blogging actions you will be taking?

I figured we have to understand just what this means to us bloggers and what actions we should take. I don’t speak for the rest of the blogging fraternity but personally I don’t like to be associated with FTC, Law, fines (yes $11,000) and most of all we certainly don’t want FTC to be behind our backs, when we’ve got enough of our business to handle.

So what does FTC New Guidelines say:

You can read the FTC document here but I thought I summarize what I think it means in a nutshell:

FTC requires and expects that bloggers who make an endorsement and receive either cash or payment in kind to disclose the material connections they share with the seller of the product or service.

What bloggers should be aware of

1. This means if you have accepted a sponsored post and get paid for it to do a favorable review, you will be subject to disclosure, not something you would normally do in the past. Also getting paid for it is not necessarily for cash but other free stuff that may benefit the blogger, his blog or his online business.

2. There is no real law binding this new guideline affecting bloggers which is a good thing. In the event that FTC does find any of your posts may have violated this new revised guideline, it will not fine you let alone $11,000 as previously thought so. Instead it then owns the burden of proving your guilt – of violating the FTC Act. But I don’t think you want it to come to this far, this possibility, right?

3. The original $11,000 fine for non-compliance that we have been hearing is not true as confirmed by FTC. In the worst case scenario, when a non-compliance is discovered, FTC will issue a warning to the blogger. However if your product is proved to have serious defects, it may be a different story to tell. I guess this means bloggers now have to be more careful with what products to promote or which merchants he partners with. You could say promoting freely in Internet has taken a whole new meaning now.

So how should you disclose

Unfortunately there is no clear definition provided by FTC how you should go about in your disclosure. I guess this means that each time you used a testimonial or other endorsement on your blog, you will have to reveal just what the average results actually are. In short, disclose and be compliant with FTC.

But it may be difficult to disclose what are the average results obtained for your product even if you wanted to. Well come Dec 1 don’t be surprised to see many websites or blog posts with such disclaimers like “the average person made 1 cent” or other similar ridiculous ones. It’s pathetic what this may be leading to but my bet is as good as anyone’s. Wanna bet?

Affiliate Links-Start to disclose

I know many bloggers don’t like to reveal which links are affiliate links on their website or blog post. Well the new FTC rule doesn’t give you a choice as it requires that you do so now from Dec 1. But you could see the positive side of things and use such disclosures to your benefit. If you truly believe in the product and the value it brings to people, putting a disclosure somehow gives your recommendation even more weight. You are seen to be both honest and truthful. Then again it depends on how your customers or prospects see you and if they trust you. So I guess building trust in them now has an added value.

In Conclusion

I really think the new FTC guidelines that are officially enforceable in 10 days time is not such a big thing as it sounded when it first got mentioned a couple of months ago. We ought to support it’s worthy cause which probably includes protecting the average consumer against fraudulent or unfair business practices. This change probably was meant to target the real advertisers, we bloggers just happen to get caught in the line of fire.

Since Adsense is close to everyone’s heart, I thought it would be a good idea to do a quick review of this interview and share some of the tips he has given. I don’t want you guys (and gals) to miss out what this Adsense expert has to say that might somehow improve your adsense earnings.

James: …on issues of getting accepted to Google Adsense

John: John suggests to use Blogger.com and open up a free blogger account and don’t sell anything on this site. Before you submit your application start writing your contents about 2-3 posts a day for the next 3 days. They can be very short posts perhaps not more than 2-3 paragraphs for each post and while you can write just about anything you like, make sure the contents looked good.

James: …on the difficulty of new websites needing good traffic to be able to perform well in adsense. How can a new website rank quickly in search engines to get those adsense clicks and start making you money?

John: John explains precisely that’s the reason why his income jumped so rapidly ($300 – $400 per day) because he stopped focusing on general niches and now focused entirely on Micro Niches. For example instead of making a website about say stereos, he would create a website on blue stereos which has much lower competition. Then by buying a domain with the keyword ‘blue stereo’ he now has a great chance of ranking on page 1 of Google with this keyword. From his own experience this is very common after just one week even with no backlinks yet.

John later qualified this statement adding that this works well only if you are using the Micro Niche approach whose sites are very targeted. If you are using a general niche approach, the keyword in the domain will never help much for your larger site built around many general terms. It will take much longer to rank in Google.

James: …on the question of what domain name to select and which domain extension is good

John: John agrees with James’ suggestion of domain name as example www.productname.com but says his preferred choice of the domain extension is .com followed by .org. If the name is taken just put a word towards the end of the keyword/product name.

James: ….on the danger of someone losing his Google Adsense account and losing all the potential earnings that go with it

John: John agrees on this possibility of someone losing his adsense account for whatever reasons like Google TOS violation. He does not worry too much about this since he built all his sites around specific types of niches and could use other means to make money should this happen. For him it’s simply a “switch over” alternative already in ready mode.

A month ago, I would never have dreamed of associating “Keyword Research” with the word “Fun”. It would be unthinkable! But let’s just say Micro Niche Finder and launching of my first Micro Niche Website helped put things into perspective.

I digress:

It’s really funny how in my IM journey how I discovered things that sometimes changed completely…my thinking, my understanding, my perception, my mindset….my hopes

Does This Blog Really Need Micro Niche Finder?

The short answer is NO, not specifically, but as an internet business owner, it helps me look for new profitable niche markets.  This blog is a communication tool I used to share with all my readers and visitors what I’ve learned in my IM journey. I was happy using all the free keyword research tools such as Google Adwords Keyword Tool and this free tool has served my needs in all my work on this home business blog. It’s only when my IM journey took a slight detour to the adsense route that I found these tools could no longer serve some of my needs or new ideas I have. Yeah like Micro Niche Website. I’m sure you may have encountered such experiences in your business as well and either wished you could do your keyword research faster OR have a better tool.

So What Can Micro Niche Finder do?

Just type in your keyword into MNF and you have loads of relevant keywords displayed in mere seconds including:

Keywords/long tail keywords: The main keyword is on the left side.

Search Count: This is the search volume as taken from the Google Keyword Tool
(exact phrase).

Exact Phrase Count: This is the number of competing websites.

Ad Cost: This is the approximate Ad Cost that company’s are bidding on this
word.

SOC: This is the “strength of competition”, along with a rating number and green
color light.

My favorite features:
1. The strength of competition (SOC) for each keyword phrase/long tail keyword is displayed with a rating number (see below). The higher this number the stronger your competition. A green “tick” means less of a fight to get top search engine ranking and a red “cross” tells you to forget it unless you know what you are doing ) You can see further breakdown into inanchor count, intitlecount and inurl count by just clicking a link.

2. When you are doing keyword research for a particular niche that you are interested, Micro Niche Finder has an excellent feature that allows you to either “broad dig” or “narrow dig” this keyword along with a host of other options. I have not seen any free tool that allows such flexibility with just one click.

Why Do I Need Micro Niche Finder

• Many people who do not know keyword research enough will choose a keyword which has a low number of competing websites. This is really not necessarily accurate because there could be many niche keywords that have a high number of websites competing but with very low strength of competition. You could easily outrank many sites if you had such information – information that only a good software can give you. You don’t necessarily need MNF but something close to what it can offer should do.

• Calculating the numbers of ‘inanchor/intitle/inurl’ counts is really hard work for someone looking to build many niche websites. It would be a worthy investment to simply purchase this software and save yourself some misery.

• I made a mistake once when I chose a wrong niche – all because I wasn’t equipped with a good keyword tool. The niche is a real estate niche, a highly competitive one and I intended to choose a keyword phrase which is not too competitive. The result was disastrous. Here take a look at what MNF now tells me about this keyword:

Well I won’t make such mistakes again with my Micro Niche Finder. To sum up what I think about this tool is this. Before I purchased MNF, whenever I bought a new domain specifically for a niche that I wanted to go into, I go like “well well I hope this is a good niche for me”. Now with my MNF (and I just found my second micro niche website), I exclaimed “haha , I got a good one!”

If you have a Google Adsense Account and run your own site like your personal blog or website, take the next 5 minutes to protect your account.

For some bloggers, Google Adsense contributes a major part of their online income; for others making money with adsense is the only income having focused only on MFA (made for adsense) adsense ready sites. If you belong to this category of bloggers and Internet Marketers have you posted Google Adsense Privacy Policy on your website or blog?

If you haven’t heard, Google Adsense in March implemented a new policy in their Terms of Service stating that all websites with Google adsense or are a Adsense Publisher of any sort you must now post a privacy policy on your website. This policy requires that “publishers must notify their users of the use of cookies and/or web beacons to collect data in the ad serving process”.

If for some reasons you have not done so, I would say you must do it NOW before it’s too late. Who knows if Google has already started random checking websites or if it can hunt down uncomplying Adsense accounts. Google is after all the ultimate law and technically it can shut you down if you don’t have this privacy promise.

How do you go about doing this? Here is a privacy policy generator to help you get one within minutes so you not only have a professional privacy policy that you can instantly add to your website, it gives you ease of mind knowing you’re compliant. One tip though – please make sure you put it as ‘nofollow’ to avoid the problem of duplicate content.

Don’t get banned from Google Adsense – Don’t do this….

1. Avoid doing any tricks to fool Google like joining link farms or link directories as they generate fake traffic. Believe me, Google is smarter than you think. It could even get you into more trouble with Google besides your adsense ban. For this reason, it may be a good idea not to outsource any link building work to other marketers.

2.Do daily routine check on your adsense ads statistics, but not just to find out how much money you made Check for any abnormal activity like hundreds of clicks if your usual daily CTR is say 10. If this happens, immediately send an email to Google Adsense support.

3. Google Adsense disallows your advertisements to be placed with any content related to adult, racism or depicting violence.

4. Remove Bad Comments or spammy ones immediately – if the comment includes a website link that you don’t feel comfortable or one that contravenes Google Adsense’s content guidelines. I know sometimes it may be hard to tell so use your best judgment or gut feel.

5. Avoid Traffic Exchange – Google Adsense has said it does not recommend using traffic exchange services. They bring in fake traffic to your site and this leads to invalid clicks or impressions that result in your account being disabled.

What if You Got The Google Adsense Ban?

If your Google AdSense account gets banned due to invalid activity, you should immediately send an appeal to Google using this form.
